It doesn't matter how much you know about pearl jam, it matters if you can give a good/entertaining speech and letterman will absolutely do that. plus, there is this: it's david fucking letterman!!

Its really not a matter of knowing the band though it seems, Ed did induct the doors after all. John Densmore would have been a cool pick, hes always spoken real high of Pearl Jam.

Dave will do a good job. He seems like a big goofball but can bring the heat when he gets fired up about something. And music is something that really seems to fire him up.

Will HBO re-air the entire ceremony at some point, or have it on demand? We'll be traveling this weekend and my wife will murder me if I hole up in the hotel to watch HBO.

The best Induction speeches are when the inductor knows the inductees though and can talk about them and rip the total piss out of them but tell stories about them too.

Bruce Inducting U2 is a good one. As is bono inducting Bruce. Ed Inducting REM is also good if fanboy rambling but still first hand and sincere.


It's a shame they won't have a true peer induct them.

Letterman should be great though. Everyone's going to watch it too because it's David Letterman in all his bearded glory. I don't need someone going through the wikipedia page for pearl jam, or even giving a convincing case for why they're a Hall of Fame worthy band. Just give me Letterman ranting about whatever for a bit, probably Trump, then about Pearl Jam he'll say "My god, these guys were good. YOWZA!", or something like that.
