I did see Imagine Dragons last night. I'm still only familiar with Night Visions so other than opener Shots I was lost when they played from the follow up. But there enough big songs to keep me entertained & it is a monster to hear Radioactive in particular live. ID did nothing new or out of the ordinary but it was a good show. I sat side stage, which usually gives you a good view of the band but I missed out on a lot of the effects (lighting, backgrounds) they used. I'm glad I went; not sure how excited I will be to see them again though.
Ticket start time was 7:30 but they had two openers and did not go on until nearly 9:30. Played a little over 90 minutes; I thought it was a little unusual that their encore was only one song. A lot of young kids & families & I noticed several pregnant women, certainly moreso than typical. Then I remembered the band's Mormon.

I think Twin Cities crowds and Minnesotans in general are eager to please and desperate to be liked. Despite being a big market, we're far enough off the beaten path that not everyone makes a stop here, so we react extra warmly out of appreciation and hope that we will be remembered when the next tour is planned. Here is the best example I can think of to illustrate that. Go to the 56 minute mark. PJ starts All Those Yesterdays. There is an issue. They stop. The crowd goes bananas.

Bonus: Then go to the 51:30 mark. You can't see me or anything, but that was 21 year old me holding the mankind sign that Ed pointed to and said, " This one's for you, fucker."

Hilarious. True and also false. Im pretty certain the "here we are now, entertain us" line is meant for midwestern crowds. Its an interesting thing us midwesterners...

I was recently down in Austin, TX. At a bar drinking. band warming up, tuning their instruments etc...

Shoulder to shoulder int he bar with people just enjoying their drinks of choice before the band started. Then, immediately, the band started. 1, 2, 3, 4...Honkey tonk kicks in and everybody in the room was two-stepping with a partner. Participating in the event.

My mind was blown yet turned on. Would never see that shit in Minneapolis. Before the band started it looked lie your average crowd getting ready to watch some music but as soon as the band kicked in....on point....boom. Dancing.

I loved it.

saw MMJ up in the D last month, follwed by 3EB and Dashboard. lol, what a weird show. Dashboard blew 3EB away, not that that's hard to do. but boy were they all kinds of terrible. Hoobastank played at a restaurant in Toledo a couple weeks ago...fun show

seeing We Were Promised Jetpacks here in Toledo this Friday. i love that they are playing 6 shows in the US and Toledo is one of the stops. had a blast last time they were here.

In all seriousness, though, we've got some great venues and really knowledgable fans. If you can ever find a musician worth traveled not for to see at First Avenue, it's worth the trip. Hennepin Avenue has a handful of lovely theaters, the Orpheum being the crown jewel. Both are a stone's throw (quite literally) from Target Field, too, so it isn't hard to have a memorable weekend here.

saw MMJ on Tuesday, ive seen them 5 times now not counting the few songs i caught at Bonnaroo 11 and i think this was by far the best highlighted by an amazing version of Steam Engine

unless some other show pops up our next will be a Dr Dog/Trampled By Turtles show and a Modest Mouse show both in October

i take a lot of pics when shows first start, maybe some video. i don't do it for anyone else but myself. i like to look back.

Never video, don't get the point of re watching shitty looking/sounding videos of a show. Enjoy the moment and put your toy away.

I take quick snaps with my phone here and there. Sometimes I'll do a burst. I try to be quick, sly and nimble and put my phone away as fast as possible. The next day I'll look through em for one to edit and post online. It works for me.

did you like The head and the heart? im a pretty big fan of their music, and was a big fan of their live shows, ive managed to see them 7 times, 2 as an opener, 2 sets at Bonnaroo in 11, 2 headlining shows in support of their first album, and 1 headlining show supporting their latest album and the only one i was slightly disappointed in was the last show i went to, i thought for a bigger venue headlining set it was too short, i feel like their attitude on stage has kinda changed since they have gotten kinda big and it was a bit off putting, and at least around the Charlottesville Va area i wasnt really thrilled with the new fans they were drawing. but they are still a great live band with some really good music

I've seen them 3 times and they were very drastically different scenarios. The first time was an intimate acoustic show of about 75 people that we won tix to on the radio. The second time was actually the same day, and they played one of the medium sized stages at a small music festival. The 3rd was last week on a huge stage at a football stadium.

They don't translate very well on a huge stage. They are much better in a smaller venue... theater size being the biggest venue I'd think they could control. Great live performers though. The first two times they were totally fine on stage... the last time they were kinda snarky bc they were playing a corporate gig, which was pretty funny.. but at the same time, they didn't say, "no", y'know?

They're definitely riding that Mumford And Sons popularity, and I think drawing some of those fans. Not saying that they're terrible people by any means, but just the type of crowd that doesn't go out of their way to discover music... the type of fans that are convenient bc something's popular at the moment.

I'm seeing Total Control Friday night. Super excited for some reason.

I saw Failure's reunion tour on the 5th, great show, those guys still kill it. I also saw Filter for free last week at a dive bar in town, they were better than I was expecting.

If I'm close enough to take decent pictures I'll take a some. Best times are during songs I don't know or particularly like and when the stage (or singer) is well lit. If one in ten turns out pretty well I'm happy. I usually post a couple of them up on Facebook but don't over do it.

I'll take a pic of two no matter where I'm sitting just as a memory of the show. Years later, I can often look back on that picture and remember a lot of things about the show compared to not having the picture to stimulate those specific thoughts.

After that, I typically don't take pics and just absorb the show. If I'm really close, then I might try and take a pic or two of the action, but that's it.

Saw Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol solo acoustic at a tiny theater in Portland last night. Played some brand new Snow Patrol stuff, and a couple of Tired Pony songs. Awesome show.
