I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Listening to this now.Happy that it's narrated by the man himself.
I read it in English, but I heard every word in his voice and accent :haha: It got more interesting when he started to tell about the trips to South America to film Aguierre and Fitzcarraldo etc. There's so much of his stuff I haven't seen which I'll definitely watch after reading the book.

I recently read The Safekeep and Shred Sisters. Both were good, quick reads.

IIRC, it’s not one of his longer books. Should be a fairly quick read.

A few days ago I read someone saying they read The Alchemist some unstated time ago and didn't remember a thing about it. I read it probably 20 years ago and I don't either. Admittedly my memory is god awful, but got me thinking about other books I don't remember squat about:

For Whom the Bell Tolls
The Catch-22 sequel
Something from maybe 2010ish by a Latin American author involving a sinister police investigator and books, or something like that?
The Betrayers
Hocus Pocus and Jailbird by Vonnegut
Probably like 5 others because I CAN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING
And they say that a hero could save us

I really sucked this year, so progress? Sadly one book a month might satisfy that.

I would love to be much more intentional with my time in general. I'm wasting away.

Ah you’re thinking of The Sinister Detectives by Rodolfo Bologna

I read 10,267 pages across 27 books last year. Way down from 2023's 25,873 pages across 70 books.

I need to do a better job of finding time to read next year. 2024 was the first time in a long time I was working full time from the office. I've been a student, part-time employed, working from home, "working" from home, or just straight-up unemployed for most of my adult life. But that doesn't seem like it'll be the case again for me, so I need to make some adjustments

Audiobooks while working are great, if that helps. Though, personally, I can only do non-fiction in audio form.

Anyway, my book total for 2024 is 61. That’s down from 101 in 2023.

I wonder what the ratio to books I bought vs books I read is.

Picked up Stella Maris by Cormac and Double Cross by Ben Macintyre today at the library. I haven't read non-fiction in forever, but the latter is intriguing af.
