Personally, I would rank the three songs we've heard officially as:

1) Dark Matter
2) Something Special
3) Running

And that's mostly because as a rule I like the schmaltz more than the punk/spritz. I will note however that Running grew on me immediately and I have it ranked at the upper end of their punky numbers.
I think Running is one of their best punkier tracks. While it has the energy of Backspacer it has an aggression I haven’t heard from them since Comatose. I’m still listening to it constantly since its release.

Gigaton is such a tough album to use as a benchmark, because if you lose crowd favorite DOTC, and whatever one's given 1-2 other highlights are, suddenly it stinks.
Gigaton is an album I like front to back. Can’t say the same for Backspacer and Lightning Bolt.

Yup. And I’d add S/T to the above list.

Too bad for you. In my experience, Gigaton is great all the way thru.

I get what trag is saying. Remove one or two song’s and the whole album stinks. Other albums you can remove one or two songs and the album is still good.

I think if you remove one or two songs, Gigaton's still the best thing they've done in 15-20 years. It definitely has raised my expectations of what they could (and should) be capable of on the albums they have left.

You mean you agree with his opinion. That part is different for everyone.

Yeah not feeling the Something Special clip at all. Hopefully the full song has something to deliver; I hope this is the low point of the album. Feel like an ass judging 30 secs of a song though

100%. Those two songs to remove would be Retrograde and River Cross. End on the amazing Comes Then Goes. Maybe even throw the wonderfully unexpected Get It Back somewhere in the mix

If you judge Lukin by a 30 second clip you are more than halfway through the song.
