Now pick a good song and make that argument.
Pretty much every song Matt taps loudly into live

NAIS?
On record, there's one open hi-hat and then in, no count in. If you mean live, then yeah, it doesn't matter what song it is, the loud count never really sounds good. After 20+ years, this band should be good enough to count into songs quietly. It just needs eye contact and good communication.

I think that open hat lead in is what I meant. Just a nudge to start the song. Sirens is just jarring for a slow song.

I'm sure that if I listened to this album with the mindset that PJ is a 90's band and their post-2000 output is largely forgettable then I probably would've given it a few listens and gotten on with my life (kind of what I did with King Animal). But LB deserves much more than that. Not surprised though that PJ is being under-appreciated once again.

Nothing As It Seems sounds like a band starting a song, Sirens beginning sounds like BO'B slapping me in the face and screaming "HERE'S THE HIT SINGLE, PAY ATTENTION".

All the things I'm complaining about are always minor things that have nothing to do with the songs themself.

I still like most of these very much.

I think sometimes those Eastern-influenced kind of things can get a little overly complex. That’s something that I love, and I write in that sort of vein pretty easily. It’s something I’m looking forward to revisiting and inserting. I’m actually working on a song that has a little bit of that going on. I’m hoping the band will like it when I present songs in 2015.
better be january 2015

Yeah, exactly. I wasn't making my point very well. The beginning of Sirens sounds so unnatural - and, that's definitely on the producer. But, as always, the band okayed it.

I love interviews like that.

I want to read more Stone interviews that talk about the music.

They need to stop producing these songs in mansions.

Now that you guys mention it, it is intro that sours me most on this song. Going back to what Harmless said somewhere last night, I think the intros overall are pretty damn poor on this album. Apart from MYM, i dont think any really stand out.

Less Neverland Ranch more House of Usher.

I don't think Usher would like that.

This was another great Stone interview. The AV Club one was really enjoyable too. Thanks!
