going to read the comments now, but two quick observations

I think they made Arya a bit too good of a swordswoman, though I suppose Brienne might have been holding back

The fight with the lannisters/dothraki was excellent. They did a wonderful job with the pounding arrival of the horde (listening with headphones really made that) and the dragon in combat was terrifying

It's not unreasonable for the writers to have Sam have helped Jorah as a way for Jorah to kill his dad. And I strongly agree Jamie is alive and suspect Tyrion will convince Dany to release him.

I mean, these are both just horrible weapons she is making use of. And she was bloodthirsty as hell during that sequence (burning the wheat?). The echoes of her father are becoming more apparent.

How is burning the wheat meant to keep King's Landing fed any different than laying siege to King's Landing and starving them that way? Going after the food seems like a pretty standard method of war in this story.

My idea before the season started is that they let her go because they know she'll come back. I'm wavering on that now, as she seems to oscillate between being unable to connect (her meeting with Hot Pie) and feeling feels (running back to Winterfell). Still think it's a possibility.

Do they work in a way where she is fulfilling some greater purpose for the god?

It's a fine distinction, granted, but part of Dany's story is that she is going to be a different kind of ruler. The food was captured. The lannisters weren't getting it to King's Landing. And Dany will need to feed those people after she conquers the city.

I may be more sensitive to that than she would be because, as viewers, we've spent more time with privation, and we also see the winter in the north and know that it is going to last for a long time

We also don't know what the point of this skirmish was. Is she attacking them to then occupy king's landing or the lands around it? If so then you might want to capture the food to feed the people and your own troops. If it was just a mission to display power, fuck up the Lannisters, and then retreat out of the area before they can respond, then burn the fucking food so the enemy troops starve.

I surprised by how much I was rooting for both sides (and how much others seem to as well). NEED to rewatch tonight. Also anxiously awaiting more Hound time.

i am not disputing the efficacy of the tactic - just commenting on what it may say about her

hell even taking the food to feed her horde is better

i wonder if her dragon getting shot sobers her.

they did a great job w the ballista. I also like that the lannisters may have held their own against the dothraki (who i have never liked)

I'm not rooting for either "side", they are clearly differing degrees of awfulness, but the show does a good job of humanizing the individuals involved. You care about the people like Jaime or Tyrion, but when you look at it from a wider scale, it's really just petty tyrants lusting for power. I've seen nothing to indicate Dany is there as a liberator. She's there to take what is "hers". Sure, she says and probably believes she will be a good ruler once she's in power, but most tyrants probably do, and they think the ends justify the means. Contrast that with the Starks, who will go to the wall for their principles.

I think this is the point.

From a purely storytelling standpoint, the world has taught Dany all the wrong lessons. People act as if she's changed in a good way, to become the ruler Westeros deserves, but that's not true at all. When she does something good, she's punished. When she's violent, she is rewarded. The world has made her one of them. I don't think the creators intend for this to be a good thing, unless they are incredibly cynical. In order for her to become a hero, she is going to have to change at some point. Maybe the white walkers coming over the wall will change her, but I dunno. Running out of time.
