I do.

No way. It was a team predicated on teamwork and defense. The exact opposite of what Carmelo Anthony brings to the table.
You're looking at Carmelo now. I don't think it's unreasonable to imagine a young Carmelo Anthony coming into the league to a veteran team with a good coach picking up that style instead of going to a hopeless team in Denver where he's immediately the guy.

That Denver team was a perennial playoff team. It's not like he was drafted by the 2016 Sixer....or Bulls.

I think ultimately it would have been good for Carmelo's career, but i can say without a doubt Im not just looking at Carmelo now. I've been making this point for ten years in defending the Darko pick (as being not "the wrong pick", simply one that didnt work out). Carmelo means that Tayshaun Prince is NOT playing.. and Rip and Chauncey don't have the ball in their hands nearly as much. I also don't think you make the Rasheed Wallace deal that year either.

and just for the hell of it, i searched my carmelo posts from the old board

I have seen a lot of improvement when he actually gets some consistant playing time. Im gonna side with Joe D and say give him a couple more years.
So while I was wrong about Darko getting much (any?) better, I've been pretty consistent on Melo.

edit: and chris, 10 years ago, makes all the same points about why they wouldnt have won with Melo.

You're probably right about Rasheed, didn't think about that. As far as Hamilton and Billups not having the ball in their hands as much, do you say that as Carmelo dominating the ball (which I don't think would happen as much as it did in his career) or do you say that as more scoring opportunities are taken from them (which I don't see as a bad thing if they're going to someone with Carmelo's ability)?

Not so much scoring, but decision making. And while neither of them was the scorer that Melo was, the combination of them was very effective. Chauncey just passing to a designated "scorer" wouldn't have been nearly effective. And I do agree that he wouldn't have dominated the ball AS much, a pure scorer like him still needs it quite a bit to be valuable. I personally don't "love" the notion of a "scorer" unless he is truly transcendent in ability (jordan, kobe, lebron). There have been so many that are really good.. (carter, TMac, Melo, etc) that just don't seem to be able to truly be a part of a special team.

And dont discount the minutes Tayshaun Prince loses either. While never really much above average as an NBA player, his defensive abilities on the perimeter allowed the helpside effectiveness of Ben, Sheed, etc. Carmelo didnt have that.

The interesting part is that I think Carmelo would have been a much better player for having been on the Pistons those years, and ultimately won a title somewhere... I just dont think it would have been here.

Just as I'm ready to say how excited and optimistic about the Heat they go and do....that. Embarrassing.

I can't believe the bulls are shopping Butler because he's not meshing with their dopey yes man coach who clearly can't cut it in the nba. What an absolute atrocity the bulls have become. Gar needs to be fired before he sets the bulls back 10 years but it won't happen until it's too late.

Can you elaborate for those of us not quite as in tune to what's going on with the Bulls? All I really know is that they've been ravaged by injuries this year.

It was mentioned in The Vertical, which is Woj/Yahoo Sports. There has been a lot of rumor has it type stuff around town too.

It all starts with the front office. They fired Thibs because he didn't respect them or give them enough credit. Read: not basketball reasons. The only change to the roster other than drafting Portis was hiring Fred to replace Thibs.

Yes the bulls have had injury problems but Thibs dealt with that every year. Fred has taken a team with a relatively healthy Rose, something thibs had for like, one season, and ran it into the ground. The SAME EXACT TEAM went from i believe 11 and 10 in offensive and defensive rating to....whatever it is this year. His rotations are terrible, the players don't respect him and his 'system' is just a bunch of empty buzz words like 'pace' and 'movement'. Earlier in the season Fred installed old Thibs sets just to appease the players, especially Butler who is very ISO heavy and clearly doesn't respect Fred.

But the worst part is what a stubborn Muppet gar is. Fred is his buddy from Iowa and he damn well is going to die on that hill. Even more infuriating is he insists the team will try to resign pau because a 36 year old center who can't defend pick and roll is part of the teams core. At this point I hope taj Jo and Derrick can escape this shit and win a title somewhere, especially Taj. I dont understand why taj keeps giving this shitty org his heart and soul. If Rose can swallow his pride after next season he'd make a really good sixth man for a contender....

10 years is a long time. Its about how long it will be until the Bulls are NBA relevant again. I'm a huge soccer fan but its a different animal than rooting for my NBA team. With soccer, its more about national pride. I know my team isn't going to win a world cup, but hell if some of the most beautiful moments of my life as a sports fan haven't been at USMNT games as part of the American Outlaws. With soccer, there isn't as much angst and I can appreciate the beauty of the game. When I watch NBA teams other than the Bulls I am fueled only by hatred.

My first basketball memory was my Dad punching the wall in our small ranch home when the Bulls lost home court advantage in the playoffs after a regular season loss to I believe the Hornets. I may have been about 6 at the time. It knocked down some trinket of my mothers that was displayed on the wall and I remember her reaction like...'its just a game'. After the dynasty was over my dad lost interest. I think there were a lot of people like him. Jordan was once in a lifetime and trying to watch Randy Brown or whoever instead of MJ was a tough ask. The Bulls don't compete as an organization, they just count money while they wait for lightning to strike. 08-12 Derrick Rose was so much fun and I identify with his injuries and new normal in ways maybe some people don't. The Bulls have always created a weird and strange sense of loyalty inside me. I watch 82 games a year....the childhood memories of the dynasty. Standard def TV. Bob fucking Costas. Its impossible not to hate anything that isn't a part of that. Hate, always hate.....

Fuck Lebron James

Fuck Steph Curry

Wade has herpes

Cleveland is at total shithole

ect. ect. ect. You've heard it all from me before....

The Warriors are going to get that record and I'm cool with it. The Bulls and I need to burn in basketball hell for a few years and stripping away some of the dyansty stuff the old white guys in the front office who really really like the state of Iowa cling to is going to be part of that process. When you guys watch from here on out, just know that I'm out there somewhere, being a hater, waiting for the Bulls to stumble into their next once in a generation talent.

I've been posting here for about 10 years. At first I did so earnestly. Sometimes I went dormant, maybe for years at a time. I've trolled a lot as well and won't deny that. Mostly the trolling came as a result of the lack of human connection I have to this place. It truly is just a habit to pop in here and has been for a long time. Which is not to say there aren't some nice people floating around. Joey and Strat are sweet guys. I can also tell Ruddo is someone who has a lot of character. The guy who offered me a spare RNDM ticket a few weeks back. I couldn't go but I'm sure it would have been a positive experience if I did. I could list a handful more of you guys....

The thing is, I just don't really care anymore. It takes up way too much time and when you get about 15 years past the use by date on a Pearl Jam message board what you are left with are mostly assholes anyway. Sad, fucked up, assholes.

Fuck it, its not worth it. My life is pretty awesome and I won't miss it.

Carry on my wayward sons,

Bryan
