I kinda like the countdown to new information gimmick they have, to be honest. But this was a disappointing way to begin it. They had to know that this would be disappointing.

With the caveat that this still felt like a pretty huge letdown, my guess is that they had to go with the tour first because some sites are already doing on sale stuff for the shows (so they need the announcement) and to also stream a song might be too taxing on the site.
That's my charitable interpretation.
