I'm a cup half full kind of person.
It's worth noting that Eddie's energy and anger at the world plateaued right around Yield and then bowed out in Binural, and every album after that should be viewed as a different era of PJ. Same goes for McCready and Ament.
Equally, it's worth noting that something happened with their influences which turned songs with beautiful hooks and melodies in albums pre-Riot Act to punk-inspired garbage like "The Fixer" and any higher energy song. Oddly enough, their slower songs have remained consistently good throughout each album. Just Breath and The End are beautiful. Maybe not on the level of Black or Nothingman or Nothing As It Seems, but moving nonetheless. That goes to prove that you can be angry for while, but sad forever.
Still, Riot Act is still 98% poo poo.

Riot Act is the last time it felt like the band was making an album they really believed in. Since then it’s felt like they were making albums they wanted everyone to like.

*m'am
Great. I'm about to get kicked out of this forum. Well, it was nice while it lasted.
In order of worst to best:
10. Lightning Bolt
9. Pearl Jam
8. Lost Dogs *
7. Backspacer
6. No Code
5. Binaural
4. Yield
3. Vs
2. Ten
1. Vitalogy
Riot Act doesn't deserve to be on anyone's list. I mentioned Lost Dogs because disc two has enough great songs to make a full album so I'll give it an honorable mention while ignoring disc one.
Great, now I feel like a juvenile. Please don't shove. I'll let myself out.

Result:
- Spoiler: show
- really, you're not that insane. if you just swapped Riot Act and Backspacer you'd be completely normal. Such pointed hatred for Riot Act is bizarre and confusing. We will need to understand this better.

Thank you, Doc. I'm glad to be in good health.
*lays down on couch*
Well, Doc. I suppose it all started with listening to the album and not finding a single song worth a damn. Not one. I listened and I listened and I listened... Awe man, those were dark times. I thought maybe there was something wrong with me, you know? But then I gave it some more time. And then Eddie came out on stage with the monkey mask (or was it Bush??) and I... I... I don't know... I just realized that Bu$hleaguer was an ad hominem attack on someone.

The rest of the album just tumbled down with it.

It's like art is subjective or something.

Since they busted out Angel I don’t think there’s any song we can say they definitely will never play again

Just a few things....
Riot Act is better than any album that came after it.
The Telluride Angel was a disaster. The Fenway Angel was listenable.
Yield has it's flaws too.
I don't have energy for HornyGold. Can we lock him and MikeJasonD in a thread together?
