The Women’s Giant Slalom competition event was fun to watch.

I don’t care about any of that gibberish. The skiing event was enjoyable.

I think there are 3 pure sports:
1) Foot race of any distance. Once obstacles are put in the way (like hurdles) or accessories are required (like skis), it's shit we made up. But from the dawn of man, I'm sure people were saying, "I'll beat you to the tree."
2) Freestyle swim races. All other strokes are inefficient bullshit.
3) MMA. I much prefer boxing, but the equipment and rules are suffocating. MMA is the closest thing we have to fighting to the death.

I suppose a few events in weightlifting (clean and jerk) and track (long jump, high jump) also make the grade, but the lengths of the performances make them hard to be called sports.

How fast would you cross a mountain in winter time with those sports? Not fast at all.

The oldest ones ever found of the truge that you can see above, were 5800 years old. However, the oldest skis may be as old as 20000 years old.

Fantastic day for Norway at the Olympics today. We won the downhill for men, cross country skiing for women, and the biathlon for men. Three gold, two silver and one bronze. Even took a break from work to watch the end of the biathlon. Pure suspense.

The NFL catch rule might as well have a figure skating judges panel at this point.

Refs are enforcing the rules, not providing the sole means of evaluating winners.

I'm not saying they're the same by any means, but they still provide a ton of subjectivity to the sport.

Some sports with judges are fun.

I enjoyed watching the men's downhill last night.

I think my biggest problem with the Winter Olympics is that very few of the races are head to head. Robs much of the suspense. It does make short track speed skating even more exciting though.

Yeah, anything head-to-head is way better than just timed. Ski/snowboard cross are always exciting.

Cross country skiing and biathlon has a lot more head to head races now, but many of us miss the classic timed races.
