Can someone explain this to me? Why not just hold onto it until summer or next Christmas? How do they recover the money spent by streaming it on a subscription service at no extra cost?

True that it's no extra cost but they are also trying to entice new subscribers. Still, I agree, I don't know how the numbers work for them.

If people will pay $20 for Mulan, they’ll pay for this. I have HBO and I won’t rush to see it for free. Why MGM isn’t finding a way to stream Bond on Thanksgiving is a mystery to me, tho.

$30, and they kind of didn't! Data seems to indicate that the Mulan release model was a bit of a failed experiment for Disney https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/arc ... ic/616433/

yeah Mulan tanked.

With WW 1984, they are following a hit. Im surprised they didnt wait a little bit more. I guess they know they are the only movie in the whole world to open in cinemas? maybe they are counting with that?

In Argentina this one could be the first new movie to premiere since march.

also. But lots of shitty movies are hits. I think it tanked because it was way too expensive to rent.

Maybe, but there were a LOT of reviews telling people not to bother.

$30 isn't too much for my family to watch a movie together if it's going to be something we'll all enjoy, like Black Widow or Wonder Woman. I mean, shit, we spent $20 on that fucking Trolls movie. All the reviews led me to believe that my kids would wander off bored early in Mulan.

Even China hated it.

Disney made it's initial money off people who were excited to see it, but after that, no one was going to bother.
