Doesn't he also talk about how he was abducted by aliens?

Yeah he's a nut with that stuff but if I remember right he might admit it could have been a dream. I don't remember. The VH section rang true to me though.
No. He firmly believes he was abducted.

I pretty much believe what he says in the VH section. I’d still like to hear from all of them, tho.

Yeah. He’s still one of my favorite rock vocalists.

But really, are Sam’s lyrics any worse than Dave’s?

With Dave it was somehow charming.

I've listened to both bada mixes and I still find them obnoxious. There's maybe a decent 10 track playlist in there for me but anymore I can't hear it.

Heh. Yeah, pretty much. But what do you expect to happen when the piece you’re sticking it to is called Poundcake?
I read once that EVH was pretty pissed about what Sam came to the table with as far as lyrics for Poundcake. It's a great song....but only because of the instrumentation.

Sammy may be the worst lyricist in the history of music. My favorite song by him with VH is Summer Nights but man are those lyrics horrible.
Cheesy lyrics, yeah.. but for some reason I love that song.. it does catch the feel of a summertime good time tune

Cheers for the playlists. I'd been meaning to do a deeper dive at some stage.

Not a big fan of the tune. Don’t know why. Just never has grabbed me.

There is something off about the guitar tone around 5150. I think EVH switched to Kramers and went away from his old sound a little bit. He didn't really get it right again until FUCK

They self produced 5150 and OU812. They went back to the old producer for F.U.C.K. Maybe that's it?

He also used that little square Stein-something that didn’t have a headstock.

Yeah that thing sounded like shit. Alex was also using electric drums a lot during that period.

Oh yeah. The only natural stuff he used at that time was the snare and cymbals. Very odd.

1. DOA - The intro still does it for me like few things do. Eddie knew how to write an intro, so many of the songs are instantly recognizable from the first note.
2. So This Is Love?
3. Little Dreamer
4. Secrets - I love this style Van Halen. Eddie's playing is almost understated at times.
5. Take Your Whiskey Home - I wish he'd play more acoustic
6. Unchained
7. Mean Streets
8. Drop Dead Legs
9. Dance The Night Away
10. Bottoms Up!
11. Beautiful Girls
12. Running With The Devil - Perfectly launched and executed solos
13. Ain't Talking About Love
14. In A Simple Rhyme
15. Dirty Movies
16. Romeo Delight
16. Somebody Get Me A Doctor
18. Eruption/You Really Got Me
19. Where Have All The Good Times Gone
20. Ice Cream Man
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

Finished reread of Sammy’s book this morning. Yep, still don’t care for him as a person. He’s way too occupied with name dropping or how much something cost or what cool new thing he’s spent his millions of dollars on. It’s a turn-off, man.

Sammy doesn't even need music. He's basically just a business man.
