My first favourite album of 2020 continues the recent run of female singers that have been catching my ear. Frazey Ford has released "U Kin B The Sun", an album of soulful grooves with some damn fine musical backing.

Here's the title track, which is a corker:


And because I know you'll want more after hearing that, here's the excellent and bluesy The Kids Are Having None of It.

If you're a fan of Hop Along, you need to be listening to the new Frances Quinlan solo album Likewise. It is just gorgeous. Very much in the spirit and compositional style of Hop Along (personal, rambling, zooming in on little moments of mundanity to find larger meaning, melodically adventurous) but with a cleaner and more scaled-back acoustic-guitar-and-keyboard-based aesthetic.
