hows the art and booklet?

Sparse on both counts. The record is a really cool purple color. The cover art is what you've seen. The whole thing folds open an there's a much cooler shot of Alanis inside that I kind of wish was the cover. Then there's just a black sleeve with lyrics printed on that holds the record. But that's about it besides the back cover which is really just the tracklist.

Haven't listened yet. I'm going to spin it here in a minute.

A friend on my high school basketball team has a unique last name and at an away game once the announcer called him, basically, Asshole man.

I wonder if anyone has ever called her All anus.

Hearing the song in Jagged Little Pill: The Musical was certainly a gut punch. It's a profound scene. But hearing Alanis sing it is a different kind of gut punch. Her voice adds dimension that allows the song to be effective outside the context of the musical's narrative. It's just as moving and heartbreaking but in a new/different way.

It's amazing how many people aren't aware of this part of Alanis's story. I mean, this is what the song Hands Clean is about.

But not everyone is a fan, especially of her post JLP stuff. So I get it. It's just funny as someone who has spent so much time with her music.

Either way, I'm so pumped for this. I hope it's better than the Woodstock '99 doc that Simmons produced.

I thought Hands Clean was about Glen Ballard not about multiple men raping her when she was 15.

No, it's not about Glen Ballard at all. My understanding (and I guess I could be way off) is that she still has a tremendous amount of love and respect for Ballard. I don't think there were any issues there. But, again, I could be wrong. I've listened to a handful of podcasts that she's been on recently and she's had positive things to say about him. Gives him a ton of credit for allowing her to be herself when others wouldn't.

From Hands Clean (for those that don't know the song):

If it weren't for your maturity, none of this would have happened
If you weren't so wise beyond your years
I would've been able to control myself
If it weren't for my attention, you wouldn't have been successful and if
If it weren't for me you would never have amounted to very much

Ooh, this could be messy but
But you don't seem to mind and
Ooh, don't go telling everybody
And overlook this supposed crime
We'll fast forward to a few years later
And no one knows except the both of us
And I have honored your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this

I mean, she's pretty open about it. The age difference, her being under age, the abuse of power, the mind fucks. And that's just the first verse & chorus. Later on she also gets into the weight stuff. There's nothing specific about multiple people. This is a specific person, I think. Or she's created one specific character to stand as a representation for many, many men of power in her life.
