i like this one, but i don't like how eddy continues to try to push his voice to places it can't go anymore (as in this song, just before the outro). he does sound good prior to that though, and i'm sure he'll sound good on the studio version.

Oh dear god say it isn't so.
No way I'm watching that video, now.
I hope they name this song (Somethingman) in parentheses. Because he won't let this one go.

Lmao , there's a high possibility that all of those lyrics are wrong.
Honestly it sounds kinda yieldy to me. And not just the e-bow but that helps. The guitar melodys and mike's solos.

The closest this sounds to anything on Yield would be "Leatherman" or "U."

Quite a bit of Backspacer was Yieldy, I thought. But the production ruined it. If the production is better on this one (and I have no reason to think it won't be, since Backspacer's schtick was obvious from the word go) then it's possible.

I'm not sure what to make of this yet.
On first impression, I don't care very much for that verse melody but I do like the "lightning booolt" chorus.

i don't hate you, but only because I'm trying very hard not to.

I lied. I listened. Not really impressed very much at all....maybe it'll sound better on record, but ugh

Those lyrics sound bang on actually.

Ed yelling "LIGHTNING BOLT" over the top of a cinnamon toast crunch chorus was
easily my "worst case scenario" upon learning the name of the album. It's not even fair to call it stupid...that wouldn't be going far enough.
Hopefully, in a studio setting, the rest of the song makes it less cringe-inducing. But this sounds a little like one of those "we've been doing this for a long time and we didn't really have anything to say but we do know how to put part a into slot b," mid-to-late career dullsville moments so many bands put out.

C'mon, man. You know there are many shades of emotion between "darkness and anger" and "celebratory," and you know that even though both groups songs may reflect more or less positive frames of mind, these new songs both have
considerably different vibes than the songs on Yield. The piano on "Future Days" almost sounds like contemporary Christian rock--that's almost assuredly not a choice they'd have made in 1998.
Well, this was just talking about Lightning Bolt, not Future Days. And I'm oversimplifying and being a bit hostile, but after years of this shit I'm out of patience for what read like knee jerk "it's not angry or depressed so I don't like it" reaction that infects much of the criticism here. Maybe I'm still railing against old demons, and there is the obvious caveat that this doesn't apply to everyone and it is totally possible to just not like the song on the merits.

Reminds me a little of In Hiding, nothing specific though. Idk if you were being serious but i really like leatherman, so thats not a bad thing for me.

High five!
I think we're the only two who prefer the chorus to the verses.

It's not like I need darkness in a song, but I do need some element of depth, and if a song doesn't offset its happiness with a little darkness, it'll be fine but it'll lack any multi-facetedness. That's why The Fixer works better than Supersonic. Cheesy is all Supersonic is, but The Fixer at least tries for more.

I feel more "uplifted" by Mind Your Manners than I do by any song on Backspacer.

Probably because MYM is better, but I don't think it's more "uplifting" by design.

I'm not sure good rock music exists that's uplifting by design.

My Guess:
Crashing stormy waves
Erode her shoreline every day
Until the castle of her……turns to sand
