The katipō is such a lovely creature. They're our only venomous spider over hereHiggs wrote:Found this little fella today while moving pot plants.

Black widow spiders are endangered? Fuck that. Stomp the fuck out of it.oasisfan35 wrote:Endangered you heathen!wease wrote:Did you step on it real quick like?Higgs wrote:Found this little fella today while moving pot plants.
I'd probably take a bit more caution than with my normal relocation process though.
Not sure about the non-Australian varities, but Red Back Spiders are definitely not endangered.wease wrote:Black widow spiders are endangered? Fuck that. Rangi noted Katipō which is endangered in NZ. No note of that with the general Latrodectus hasselti though, so you may be spot on there.Birds in Hell wrote:Not sure about the non-Australian varities, but Red Back Spiders are definitely not endangered.wease wrote:Black widow spiders are endangered? You'd be mad to 'relocate' one.
I am not mad and did not relocate. This spider is a fair bit flatter now than it was when the pic was taken.Birds in Hell wrote:Not sure about the non-Australian varities, but Red Back Spiders are definitely not endangered.wease wrote:Black widow spiders are endangered? I honestly don't understand why they don't change the date to 1st March. I appreciate the issues with "Invasion Day" tied to the 26th Jan. I just really miss having a day to celebrate who we are as the lucky country without all the BS.Sgt. Crackpot wrote:Australia day sucks now. Nothing but protests and debates. Yep. Gonna need the gooch cooler today. This heat is bullshit.LetMeSleep wrote:Hope you don't melt today, Higgs.

I just had a look - 42 degrees? That's insane! I think we might have hit 20 todayHiggs wrote:Yep. Gonna need the gooch cooler today. This heat is bullshit.LetMeSleep wrote:Hope you don't melt today, Higgs.

it's fking crazy how the red stripe warning exists even on the spider's cousin other side of the globe!Higgs wrote:I am not mad and did not relocate. They are however damn good looking, for spiders.
