stip wrote:I'm not saying there is anything wrong with liking AC/DC, mind you. I kind of like them and I get the appeal. I just really don't see the difference, and somehow authenticity seems like a pretty poor yardstick to use with this band and this kind of music.
What don't you see the difference in, and how much difference does it make?
the difference between the two singers/two eras
and not much difference

Also: ears.

Australian as, mate!
(Though all of their members, bar Phil Rudd, were born in Scotland or England.)

Without this band, we wouldn't have Lungs Wasted.

To me, I categorize AC/DC thusly: Back in Black, and everything else.
In the everything else category there's some highlights, some lowlights, a lot of paint by numbers hard rock.
Back in Black, on the other hand, is sustained brilliance, a moment in time that's proven nearly impossible (by anyone in this genre) to duplicate. Angus is perfect on this record.

My favorite thing about AC/DC is the guitar tone. Especially Bon Scott-era AC/DC. A lesson in how to sound heavy, without maxing the gain, palm muting, and scooping the mids. The personality of the SG and Angus' hands are out front. A cord, a pick, and an amp. I respect that.

It's also worth mentioning that "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" was not released in America until 1981. It was a huge hit...I imagine lots of folks thought it was the follow-up to "Back In Black". So Bon and Brian were both around for a while, blurring a lot of American's perception of who the lead singer was.
