I thought the movie was OK, alright. Nothing special. Honestly, playing clips of Fury Road during the end credits did it no favors. It very definitely does not have the power or madness of that movie. It's entirely too long, but I still felt like it was missing chunks that would have made it feel more whole. Not that I'd want it to be longer. I don't know. I'll give it another shot tonight, maybe I missed some things

I really liked the change of peace. Subverts any expectation one could have with the previous one.

I liking it more and more

Would it have been better with Florence Pugh?

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. Joy and Hemsworth were both great and I wasn't super bothered by the CGI. The action sequences were still pretty wild (especially the fury road chase)

Sure it's not as good as Fury Road, but what is?

I watched Fury Road again when I got home (I watched it last weekend as well) What a movie. It's just relentless.

Spoiler: show
Why did they add that Scrotus character? He added nothing, looked stupid, and is apparently still alive at the end? Sounds like a scene got cut or something.

I liked Praetorian Jack. He looks like Lee Majors.

I finished a rewatch of Fury Road as well. It’s just on another level. Characters, effects, stunts, vibe. Furiosa (and just about any other movie) can’t quite hold a candle to it.

Every time he came onscreen, I thought of Mikey Day playing Butthead on SNL.

To be fair, "My name is Scrotus" or whatever the line is is one of few genuinely funny moments in the movie. Plus, George Miller has another prequel he'd like to make. Mad Max The Wasteland. Scrotus could be part of that. He was kind of an annoying, uninteresting, boring, incompetent character though so it's not like I'm looking forward to seeing more of him

I hope he gets to make another one, but I have my doubts.

But no more prequels.

The Wasteland would also be a Fury Road prequel

Relative to expectations, this appears to have flopped big-time at the box office. Really disappointing as that'll probably rule out them giving Miller the budget to do another one before he retires.

Regardless of box office, I'm wondering what might've been had Fury Road's DP agreed to come out of retirement to do this one. I'm also curious what other crew members didn't stay on for Furiosa.

it could have some legs, but its making 65M worldwide. If the studio thought a prequel was going to do the same numbers of Fury Road, they are mistaken.

tragabigzanda wrote:Thinking more about this. There's no world where it could ever live up to Fury Road; the spectacle alone of your first viewing of that movie was likely burned into your brain.

But still this was super fun. And I like that even though it had some more conventional plot beats, Furiosa still only had a few lines.

Also I loved the guys in the parachutes, especially those two who sand-skied behind the motorcycles before taking flight, that was so f'n rad.
I felt like that was a bit much, but then again I loved the leader guy in giant flying octopus.
