Well, so much for the joke that they were waiting for Wotman to teach them how to play WFS... I think they have it down just fine :0

That looked like a wild set list. I thought they were going to wait until Monday (Stevie Wonder’s birthday). The only thing that would have topped NAIS second would have been going right into Upper Hand after. NAIS > Upper Hand might be a pipe dream of a sequence. This set though looks really fantastic. Hail hail the lucky ones at this show.

Love seeing NAIS and 7 o’clock in there but too many new songs is killing variety. 9 songs at 3/3 for the tour, 5 more at 2/2, which is rough in a 24 song set.

I'm all in favour of 7-8 new songs every night. This is the "Dark Matter Tour" after all. It also helps that the new songs are good.

absolutely- i would love 6-7 new songs per show. But I wouldnt mind 9. from a live attendee perspective, rather than the much smaller percentage of folks reading set lists and buying boots to shows they didnt attend, the chance to hear the new material seems like it would trump the importance of a broader distribution across records.

They'll start dropping DM songs as the tour goes on. It happens every time.

Yes - made it in time comfortably. I was about 10’ from the rail right in front of Mike.
Say what you will about Ed - the hair plugs, the cheekbones, the lawsuits against little kids’ families - the guy absolutely works his ass off. You can tell Matt is kinda in awe of him up there. Mike went into a trance for a while. How many basses does Jeff tour with? Stone turns his back to the crowd a lot.
What struck me is the run of high energy songs leading up to the encore break. These guys are in such great shape for - what, their early 60’s? Amazing.
I don’t recall the song exactly but on one of the new ones you could see Ed looking down at the prompter quite a bit. Maybe some others, too. So many lyrics to remember.

PORTLAND: Yikes, avoid it. I am back on the train heading home. Was here for approximately 13 hours (half of that sleeping). Stayed on the edges of the Pearl and Old Town/China Town districts. Quick walk across the Steel Bridge north of the river to the venue.
It’s probably because I know which areas to avoid so I haven’t seen it lately, but Seattle’s drug addict / mentally ill / homeless problem I feel pales in comparison to Portland’s. So many buildings boarded up. So much poop on the sidewalks. Tents everywhere.
Ed specifically told the story about Even Flow before they played it last night, he must have walked around a little before the show yesterday.
Yikes.

Seems like they might burn out the songs faster if they do the same 7 of them every show in the roughly the same slot and order. I’d love to see something like half the album one night half the second night for two night stands in the major markets. Showcase the new material without falling into repetition.
