Stone has actually been the most effusive in praising Watt in interviews. He has straight-up said he wants to do another record with him and called him "the perfect producer for us". I don't think he can be much more clear about how he feels about him.

I think that quote above is being misrepresented. It's completely possible Stone is proud of the Dark Matter output while also not believing it's the greatest thing they've ever done. That's downright logical, actually.

Those effusive quotes were from earlier in the year, around the time of the album's release.

It's entirely possible Stone's views have changed since then.

That's a stretch considering he didn't say anything that contradicts his previous statements.

You have to admit, Stone's tone is quite different in that recent interview in suggesting he wants to move away from the approach they took on Dark Matter.

In any event, what does it matter? They probably won't make another record for a few years and who knows what will happen by then.

It's a bit different but I also think that's Stone's personality where he's blunt at times vs. just giving the canned response: "Oh, this is the greatest moment of our careers." He'll just call it for what it is without the hyperbole.

I remember when Backspacer came out he did a radio interview in my local market. He was real direct (but respectful) with his responses. That took the DJ by surprise and she was basically insinuating that he was a jerk afterwards when he was gone. In reality, he was just not sugarcoating things and I got some of those vibes in that response here.

Except Into The Wild, I can't seem to give a fuck about anything solo EV.

Spot on. I had tix to see EV in 2014 and had to bail. No regrets. I only just watched his Water on the Road dvd. Awful.

I saw him once in NYC. I forget the year (poster is in my office, though). It was great. Wasn’t a big fan of uke songs though

I’m really enjoying this. It gets into my soul right from the start. I kinda wish it would lose its shit more towards the end though.

I was reading about the original on Wiki and saw this cool story about the guitar tuning:

"Save It for Later" features a unique DADAAD tuning that Wakeling stumbled upon; he explained, "I had tried to tune my guitar to DADGAD to play along with Jon Martyn tunes in late 70's before the English Beat started. I accidentally came up with DADAAD, so I made up my own chord shapes and enjoyed the hypnotic drone of the tuning on my national steel for hour after hour." Due to the song's atypical tuning, Who guitarist Pete Townshend called Wakeling to ask how to play the song:
"I got a phone call at 11 in the morning, and somebody gave me the phone and said, “It’s Pete Townshend for you.” And I said, “Of course it is, he phones about this time every Saturday doesn’t he?” [Laughs.] I thought it was somebody making a joke. I picked up very sarcastically, 'Oh, hello Pete.' And he said, 'Oh, hello Dave, this is Peter Townshend here and I’m sitting with David Gilmour [of Pink Floyd], and we're trying to work out your song 'Save It for Later,' but we can’t work out the tuning.' They presumed it was DADGAD as well, and couldn’t make it work, and so I had to explain that I’d made a mistake and it was not DADGAD, it was DADAAD.
