I think it’s fine to block, say, a coworker or one of your kids’ classmates parents. But family? Shit is stupid. They’ll be at weddings and funerals, you’ll be rallying around eldercare together some day. Just a total lacking in perspective IMO.

I guess I’m stupid? I have an uncle that the only communication he does any more is group emails to multiple family members making very sexist and very racist “political” “jokes”. I’m not smart enough to have good perspective i guess because i blocked his emails. Just no need to deal with that.

I would never call you stupid, but you could just as easily delete his emails; that way you’ll still get them when it’s when aunt Millie dies or whatever.

Seriously, this newfound instinct to block out anything or anyone that doesn’t align with one’s worldview is so messed up. And I get the need for self-preservation; it’s a tough balance to strike. I can’t imagine any scenario where I’d block family members, not unless they committed fraud or a crime against our family maybe.

if you are getting an email letting you know your aunt passed away then my guess is you arent very close relatives

blocking people is useful. this way you dont get sucked into a stupid argument that no one is going to change their mind. whether it is about politics or anything else.

i have family members i have blocked or flat out just do not add because i have no use for their bullshit. if your posts are of adult humor or being racist you have to expect people regardless of relationship to block you

We don't know B's relationship with his cousin, and you seem to be assuming that B is fully severing all contact forever instead of just manicuring his social media experience, which he is entitled to do. "Kamala Harris suck dick" is not challenging B's political views, it's making a gross sexist joke. It's totally fine and correct to opt out of that shit.

I unfollowed almost all my relatives on Facebook, though we're still "friends". We have to keep up appearances and all.

If I didn't, their trumpposting would probably turn me into a disgusting lib,too.

I also resisted unfollowing her through 4 years of "stupid Biden" memes because my mom always had a soft spot in her heart for her.
