I played a guy on Arena this morning whose name was I.C. Weiner.

After getting it played against me constantly when LotR was in standard, I finally started playing Palantír of Orthanc in a historic brawl deck, and I just won a game three turns after I played it because my opponent decided to take the life drain every time. You’ve gotta have some sort of artifact remover in your decks, friends.

I think I’m going to spoil myself this month and buy either the full set of commander decks for LotR or Mh3. On the fence about which, but LotR would be cheaper.

deck balance is why I'm falling in love with this game. The possibilities are near endless if you're just throwing together a pile of cards, but identifying synergies and plotting mana efficiency seems to be the thing that separates the elves from the orcs, so to speak.

I haven't seen any landwalk since I started. Is that an old set mechanic?

Yeah it’s an older mechanic. Cards would say they have “plainswalk,” “islandwalk,” etc. it means they can’t be blocked if the defending player controls a land of that type. I don’t think it’s printed on many cards nowadays so you wouldn’t see it in standard.

Looking it up, it appears to be an old mechanic.

I bought 1000 cards off of Amazon last October just to have a ton to choose from. I think a lot of the landwalks were in this bundle I bought.

Ouch, this can be devastating.

My computer programming / logic background (from waaaay back) is what has me hooked on this game. There is so much similarities between Magic and programming.

I also had a One Ring in my hand and never had to play it.

WOTC also announced that starting with this set, vehicles can be commanders. People think this will be a huge addition to the format, but I haven’t see it explained why yet.

I had a couple of dozen unread messages on my Arena app. Turns out they were all backdated set announcements with 3x pack giveaways dating all the way back to The Brother's War! I have more packs than I know what to do with. Holy shit.

There are also a bunch of codes you can enter on your WOTC account for free packs. Some may be expired, but worth a try: https://www.pocketgamer.com/magic-the-g ... ena/codes/

I'm really starting to get annoyed with all of these chocobo decks I'm facing.

That being said, I played with one in Jump In the other day and get the appeal. Just landfall on top of landfall on top of landfall. Then draw cards for more lands.

I’m mostly playing brawl but am getting those Chocobo decks every one and a while. The commander grows so quickly that it’s tough to remove with the deck I’m playing. It hasn’t gotten to the “quit as soon as I see it” level yet, but maybe soon.

Tangentially related -- I've discovered a podcast called "The Howling Salt Mine."

I’ve seen a few recommendations for MTG podcasts, but, honestly, it’s such a visual medium for me that I don’t know if I could do it.

I played in a few tournaments with the first MTG world champion, although I think we only played against each other once.
