yeah GC is too advanced for me. I'm not too serious about chess, and I suck at it. I appreciate Anna's nerdy excitement about it though.

I used to watch a lot of GothamChess, and took his course on the Vienna. Bumped me up from absolute amateur to mildly OK at one game. I should've kept studying though, I've been plateaued for years

Don't get high and mighty with me when you're in another thread debating about Wuthering Heights.
You know the target audience for that film is chicks right?
You shouldn't even be talking about it.
I’m not really talking about Wuthering Heights though.
Buddy, you're the one schmoozing around at the private ski hill. Don't come at me with this bullshit.

Any more than 3 is probably overkill, but I would like to push the limits.

These are the ones I like from Burt's list:
Folding Ideas - I've only watched a couple of his video essays, and usually over a couple sittings, but they're very insightful and well put together. He's a bright guy and makes interesting videos. I should explore his stuff more.
Jenny Nicholson - She's funny and bright. I appreciate her videos about the weirder side of fandoms, and extremely niche topics such as that weird Evangelical theater group that re-enacts popular movies to make them about Jesus.
Trash Theory - A faceless YouTube channel about various aspects of rock music history. I love their breakdowns of various subgenres, like the "songs that are to blame for stomp-clap-hey", as well as their examination of 70s New Wave and punk bands. It's really well researched stuff and they draw a lot of parallels that I hadn't thought of but make me go "ohhh that makes sense". I love the channel's overriding theme of how everything influences everything else.
Todd in the Shadows - Love this guy, he directly inspired my own podcast. I really enjoy his video series such as One Hit Wonderland, and especially Trainwreckords -- an explorations of albums by acclaimed artists that were considered the death knell of their careers. Fun stuff, even if I often disagree with his takes.
Some other channels he listed like Patrick Willems, RedLetterMedia and Jeremy Jahns I can't stand because I find the people in them very unlikeable. Moist Critical shows up on my feed sometimes but he's just a "sit around and explain some current news/drama/viral story while making very forced comedic hyperbole" kinda guy.
Some others I like:
Adam Neely - in-depth music theory and music history analysis. I've posted his stuff a bunch over on the "videos about music" thread. He's tremendously talented and very insightful.
Ben Levin - A mix of surreal, experimental animations and music-related topics. Great channel that should get more views.
Ordinary Sausage - A weirdo who makes cursed sausages, plus other bizarre food experiments.
Sandwiches of History - Just a middle-aged dude having fun making various sandwiches from across culinary history. An extremely lo-fi channel that reminds me of what YouTube used to be back in the day.
Odd Tinkering - Restorations of various objects. My favorites are his knife restorations. I find his videos relaxing and sometimes fall asleep to them.
Defunctland - Pop culture history, focusing on the downfall of various theme parks. Surprisingly interesting stuff.
TheRealJims - A smart guy who analyzes Simpsons lore and character histories, often trying to make sense of the show's jumbled timeline. This is a great channel, especially when he dives into open questions and longstanding fan debates. He doesn't really take it that seriously which I think is refreshing for the space.
Memoria - This chick playing weird video games and providing commentary. One of only two gaming-related channels I'll watch because I find her very charming.
SNESdrunk - The other gaming-related channel I follow. Reviews of old SNES games. I'll find myself watching his reviews even of games I have never, nor will likely ever, play. They're bite-sized videos and interesting to watch.
Low End University - A bassist who analyzes various rock songs, obviously focusing on the bass side of it. He's a cool guy and knows his stuff.
DankPods - A crazy Australian guy who reviews and analyzes various headphones, portable music players, and old tech, focusing mostly on the turn-if-the-century obsession with cheap low-quality mp3 players. He's funny.
Maya Higa / Alveus Sanctuary - Cute animal stuff.
Jeb Brooks / GreenerGrass - Reviews of various airlines, airports, cruise ships, trains, etc -- it's fun to watch and think about. This guy has my dream job, tbh.
Also some news/politics channels like Democracy Now, Second Thought, Philip DeFranco, The Majority Report -- but I've been avoiding all these for a few months as I've been dealing with family troubles, 'cause it gets to be too much.

It looks like a lot, but:
1- I don't watch videos by every one of these creators every day, or every week, or even every month.
2- YouTube is my go-to app for background noise while I work, so I'm often only half-watching my subscription queue while I do other stuff.

Yeah I just load up the queue in the morning and listen while working or walking. Most of them only make content once every week or two at most anyway.

The only YouTuber I watch is Walk with Me Tim. He’s a moderately dull British man who goes to hotels. It’s very hard to explain the appeal.

What about the guy whose whole deal is using hotel/public toilets?
