Red Mosquito

I tried to make an EP out of Backspacer and Lightning Bolt, but I struggled. So now I'm trying to make a CD single.

I like most of "Backspacer," though not many of the individual songs are high up on my overall list ("The Fixer" and "Johnny Guitar" are my favorites). "Lightning Bolt" just never connected with me; I like more of it now than I did when it came out, but it's still rock bottom PJ for me.

The production on both records is definitely on the sterile side, and I hope we get a PJ album with a different producer someday, but I care about this less as time goes on. For the amount of time I spend with these records, the production is more a transient annoyance than anything; to me they just sound like glossy,
over-pampered modern rock records. And if the songs were great, I honestly don't think I'd care about it at all.

The longer I go without listening to either of these albums the less I see myself ever listening to them again.
