It's three episodes that were aired two years ago, how are you only halfway through?

I thought both episodes this season were outstanding, especially the most recent one.

The last episode
The good stuff
- Spoiler: show
- The start of the episode was good. I was wondering if they were ever goimg to do anything other than allude to the drug problems. The homesless dude they picked up was awesome, as was watson carrying round his gun and a tyre iron. I always enjoy mycroft and sherlock having a 'girlfriend' was pretty funny they should have kept her around longer. Magnusson was weird and creepy as fuck.
Rant about the rest
- Spoiler: show
- This episode started well and then turned to shit when mary shot sherlock. Sherlock figuring out how what direction to fall took way too long, moriarty doing his joker impression was unnecessary and lasted too long. Sherlock and mary convincing watson 'you chose mary so its no big deal she lied to you from the start and shes an assasin or something' was stupid, and the score underneath made the entire scene comical. I had figured out from the start that magnusson was using his 'mind palace'. And youd think the government or someone would have figured out he had no actual files and killed the freaky face licking bastard a while ago.
I really wish there were more shorter episodes instead of the three long ones or something, the pacing is always off to me, big time jumps and over long flashbacks are kinda annoying.
The ending
- Spoiler: show
- If moriarty is back I might have to stop watching. I loathe everything about that character and every acting choice the actor used. I was so glad to be rid of him
Plus theres no way sherlock wouldnt notice if he didnt actually shoot himself. Im leaning towards (hoping) someone is just messing with sherlock/coming for revenge. Or this dude was never the real moriarty and just a puppet lol.

well
- Spoiler: show
- i really liked it. i was bummed when she shot him because i really like her, so it was a relief to know she'll be around longer. mycroft this season was the mvp, though. what most bothered me is that mycroft made a point of telling those 2 people in sherlock's apt. that the government was capable of making shit up to ruin them, so why not make shit up to protect sherlock? oh, and it bothered me a little that sherlock was beaten by the creeper and resorted to just killing him. can't wait for season 4, but i suppose i'll have to.

- Spoiler: show
- I didn't mind that Sherlock shot him, there was nothing really to beat after he found out the guy had no proof for anything. They could have just arrested him for blackmail but he was so gross I was waiting for someone to kill him. It did annoy me that it took so long for Sherlock to figure Shit out, though I guess he was all high on morphine or whatever. I've seen people saying they're annoyed that they turned Sherlock into a murderer but I get the feeling this Sherlock has probably killed a bunch of people.
I still like Mary, I was just annoyed that they brushed over telling us who she really is, and that once again poor Watson gets screwed lol.
Though actually I don't know why she didn't just shoot Magnusson when she shot Sherlock? Sherlock would have told the police Watson didn't do it...? Meh.
I think it's just moffats style that annoys me really, lots of overdramatics and trying too hard to be "clever" I haven't been able stand Dr who for ages now. I'll just keep hoping the good stuff outweighs the bad stuff for me on Sherlock.
Anyone know when they're planning for the next series to start? 2015? 2074?

Man, those last two episodes were just aces. I loved every second of the third episode. Easily the best season. The second and third episode are the two best in the series.

- Spoiler: show
- i also enjoy the fact that the doomsday device in the last two season finales didn't actually exist, and reflect at least in part Holmes' desire to overdramatize his enemies

- i was also a big fan on the tongue in cheek way they backed away from another 'return of Sherlock Holmes' set up.

- Spoiler: show
- I'm somewhat annoyed by the way they let on at the beginning that the information is in the glasses. They start the scene blurry and it comes into focus only when he puts the glasses on and at the same time the information is on-screen like it's being projected. Yes I like that Sherlock was wrong about them being anything special but I don't like that they lied to the audience.
Maybe I haven't watched enough Moffatt shows to understand that this is what he does?

I like being fooled like that, and it didn't feel cheap. it was a reasonable assumption, and a stylized presentation of his memory

I don't know about his comedy work. As a project overseer he's usually (usually) [(usually)] great. As an occasional writer, he tends to have enough in him for a single episode a season. So long as he lets other writers into the creative process, he hits gold. But he also likes to get caught up in trying to outwit his audience, and the further he gets into a show the more that ends up forcing him to contradict or ignore his own previous storytelling. "This character behaves like this because they have this back story....just kidding! Now they behave in a different way, and have a totally different history!"
The real problem is when he goes for "epic," though, and hopefully he stays away from that on this show. He tends to end up trying to go so big that he can no longer actually put the goddamn story on screen. He has to do a series of vague shots or something, while someone narrates over the top of them TELLING us something amazing happened that we didn't actually see. Or, because he's reached outside the boundaries of his own medium and is unable to pay up, he simply pulls a red herring and tries to cover it with a one-liner.
At his best, though, none of this shit happens, and so far it seems like Sherlock is getting his best work (aside: I haven't seen this season).

This season was the best yet, esp the second and third episodes.
I persume this guys writing/producing is aided by the fact that he is adapting source material. I'm actually reading the original stories right now. The TV show has me curious.

It is. There was a special on PBS this weekend called Unlocking Sherlock, and that was covered. Not sure if they're airing it again leading upnto the premiere, but it's worth seeing. Two things really struck me: 1) The less celebrated cocreator of this series (Gatiss) plays Mycroft. 2) in the original stories, Watson had come back from war in Afghanistan. Talk about history being doomed to repeat itself.

The more I think about it I guess I'm OK with it. Really it was the only part of the episode that I didn't care for and even that was a small amount.

They're fantastically fun. As much as I like this show, and even the recent movies have been fairly fun, give me the compiled stories any day of the week.
