It's so good

Legitimately one of the most enjoyable listening experiences I've ever had. I hear bits of Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, even Boards of Canada in there.

I love Runner so much. I think this album came out at a weird time, and has aged much better now that it's separated from the 2004 commercial market. At the time, I had spent the past seven years or so checking out William Orbit, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Nightmares on Wax, Chemical Brothers, Phoenix, Goldfrapp, Daft Punk, The Avalanches, etc... Plus Moon Safari and 10,000 Hz Legend had made a strong impression. Simultaneously, a lot of the sounds on the album -- the compressed, arpeggiated nylon string guitar, the filtered synth sweeps -- had become commonplace in mainstream pop music.

When Walkie Talkie came out, it felt kind of tired, like I'd heard it a ton of times before, and it wasn't doing anything to set it self apart. But these days I really love all the ear candy, and the sense of joy that permeates everything. Awesome album.

How much acid and ecstacy did you do in the early aughts?

I did MDMA once and did not like it.
I've done mushrooms several times and loved every second of it.
