I don't know why you'd say there isn't.

But I'm probably biased because I was coming of age.
are you in your 60s?
Nah, I was just taking the mickey out of the 'you only like the music released that year because you were coming of age' theory :-) I'm in my thirties.
Way to twist my words around.
You're welcome chud!

I quite enjoyed the new spin on an old favourite. I gave a pleasing chortle in response.

I can certainly see how that notion might ring true for some but it never has for me either; most (though not all) of the music that's made an indelible impression on me was released well before I stumbled upon it - I've never felt any contemporaneous connection to the music of a particular time.

I wonder if that's partly a result of geographic isolation. Even if I found a great new band, chances were slim to none that I'd ever get to see them play; bands don't tour Australia all that often and, even when they do, it's relatively rare that they play in Adelaide. I've never felt like I was listening to "old" music when I was delving into something released in 1965 or 1982 or whenever else.
A good record is a good record regardless of era.

i have to agree with you. a lot of the music i love was released in the 70s but overall i think of the 1970s as a pretty awful music era. personal bias ftw!

I can see your point. Having grown up in through 80's with a lot of great 70's music. I used to wish that I could've grown up through the 70's instead.

But now I see all the young generations clamping on to the terrible 80's fashions, music styles, etc. and they are probably wishing they grew up in the 80's. Really, there was some great stuff to come out of the 80's, but there was an absolute tonne of shit too.

It's reciprocal. Nobody wants to live in the now.

well, i tend to associate the 1970s with the height of AM radio bubble gum music, so wouldn't want to live through all that again. but i was in my late 20s in 1994, and was tickled pink to have so much music being released that was so good at the time.

The shit doesn't matter though. It can be ignored, unless for some reason you are forced to listen to bad music in your state. Quality and quantity of the good stuff is what matters.

I still firmly believe 1991 was a penultimate year for the 90's. Just take a look at these behemoth albums:

In another, more accurate way, 1998 was the penultimate year of the 90s.
