Listening now.
Digging the first song, though it's not something I'd actively pursue. It's something I'd hear a friend play at a BBQ and enjoy it, but have no real desire to download it when I got home.

Track 2 was boring.
And now we're into Band of Horses. Makes sense. I would have used a song other than Laredo, but it's a good song that fits the flow so far.

track 5 is fantastic
flowed into it well, fits the overall aesthetic, but is just different enough to break the monotony

Alright, so I just finished this mix for the third time since I posted it, so now seems like a good time for some thoughts.
As a whole this usually isn't the kind of music I enjoy listening to for an extended period of time, but I found this mix to be more pleasant than I would have expected. There were a few songs I was already familiar with.
- Spoiler: show
- Country Sad Ballad Man by Blur
(Track Five) has always been a favorite of mine. When I was a freshman in college I used to sit in the stairwell and play that on guitar and sing along way too loudly with my other britpop-nerd friends. Good memories in hearing that song on here.
- Spoiler: show
- Only Love Can Break Your Heart by Neil Young
(Track Nine) is never unwelcome. Beautiful song. I'm not much of a
- Spoiler: show
- Beatles
fan but I recognized
- Spoiler: show
- Long, Long, Long
(Track Eleven) right away. Not a favorite by any means, but it fit well in this mix. I recognized Track Thirteen,
- Spoiler: show
- New Slang by The Shins
as well.
There was nothing that made me want to hit skip, but the only two songs that really grabbed my attention were Track Two and Track Eight. The lines about listening to Nebraska on that one struck a chord with me, as Nebraska is one of my five favorite records of all-time. It had a more aggressive, grittier feel to it than the rest of the mix as well, which probably helped it stand out a bit too. I could see myself going back to this song in the future, or putting in some playlists of my own. The singer on Track Twelve sounded like Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip, though obviously it's not him. That helped that track stand out for me a bit though. That's probably the songs outside of the ones I knew and the two I just mentioned that most stuck with me after the mix had finished.
So, in conclusion, not a bad mix at all, but as it was very much outside of my tastes, not many individual songs left a big impression on me. I'm sorry I don't have more to say. This would probably be right up the alley of a lot of other RMers though (I believe DcT and someone else specifically were mentioned earlier, and I definitely agree). A good mix to kick off this whole thread with though, as it was obviously put together with some real thought and effort. It sets a good bar for future mixes, that's for sure.
No one wants to venture a guess as to whose mix this is?

It's obviously someone who accurately identified the Kinks, Blur, Pink Floyd and the Beatles as the four pillars of Americana.

i shared very similar thoughts as Lament on this one. I enjoyed it, and would probably get played on perfect Saturday afternoon days while sitting in the backyard drinking beer
