Was that quality absent from past Iranian filmmakers?theplatypus wrote:How about Abbas Kiarostami's Like Someone in Love? That was great. There's a sort of solemn beauty that current Iranian filmmakers seem to veer towards.

Actually, yeah! For the most part. I'm referring to the work of Kiarostami, Asghar Farhadi and especially Mitra Farahani, who directed that documentary I mentioned earlier. There's a kind of quiet, contemplative and mesmerizing quality to their recent work that's different from the more down-to-earth realistic old school of Iranian film. Kiarostami is definitely the Godfather of this new school. I love Iranian cinema.Heathen wrote:Was that quality absent from past Iranian filmmakers?theplatypus wrote:How about Abbas Kiarostami's Like Someone in Love? That was great. I agree completelyThe Argonaut wrote:I feel like anything Iranian cinema currently veers towards should be credited to Kiarostami in the first place.
