Heroin and ego crippled Lennon for very extended periods of time. Yoko Ono fed both of those, and he returned the favor.stip wrote:Did Yoko Ono ruin John Lennon, or did John Lennon ruin Yoko Ono?

I really love my copy of the Plastic Ono band Live Peace in Toronto LP. The second side with Yoko wailing is kinda awesome.

Look, I'm not defending Yoko's performance at Glastonbury, nor am I excusing her performances at the Toronto Pop Festival, Rock & Roll Circus, Fillmore East with Zappa, and everywhere else she unleashed her vocal chords in a violent way. The truth is that there is a lot more to her work than just that aspect, which seems to elude all of the haters in this thread. It's also really crass to pick on an 82 year old woman, and to make it look as though she is some rambling lunatic like Wesley Willis, when she is in fact deliberately singing that way because it's how the song goes, and it's her only song that is set up that way. It also makes you look like an misogynist ass to pick on such an easy target.

Re: Yoko Ono is f-ing awful at Glastonbury
My ten-year old daughter says the same thing about Billy Corgan, and I think the dude is (or was) a badass! I don't think anyone's picking on an 'easy target' because she's 82, or whatever. That's not good logic. People have been saying this about her atrocious noise that she calls art for decades. There have also been the defenders, like you, who use the flimsy excuse of "Hey, dick... she sings that way intentionally... blah, blah!" Well, she has duped the fuck out of you, to the point that you get crabby as hell for no reason other than strangers on the interwebs having fun. Just like Billy Corgan duped me, and Yes I still defend him, and just about everything he's done (until Oceania)... You seen how much shit the namesake of this forum gets?!Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Look, I'm not defending Yoko's performance at Glastonbury, nor am I excusing her performances at the Toronto Pop Festival, Rock & Roll Circus, Fillmore East with Zappa, and everywhere else she unleashed her vocal chords in a violent way. In other words, Chill out on the 'Yoko has talent' nonsense. The only talent she ever had was her husband and her kid.
Now this guy, on the other hand... Damn!

You view it as "having fun". I view it as a lame attempt at being a critic. There is nothing lamer than Yoko-bashing. That's about as low as it gets. Because most of the time, the Yoko-bashing comes from somebody who believes they have an ace-in-the-hole, and they are going to blow everybody away with their amazing critique of this jap cunt's horrible music...all of the 3% that they've heard. Those are the most infuriating self-appointed critics...the ones who know nothing about the target of their criticism. And then they can't handle it if someone takes them to task and the phrases "brianwashed" and "you've been duped" are thrown around. It's true that you have a right to your opinion and the right to "have fun" on internet. But I reserve the right to call you a dumb fuck if you deserve it.Iholdthepain wrote: My ten-year old daughter says the same thing about Billy Corgan, and I think the dude is (or was) a badass! Hey Dingbat... I'm amused that you think there's NOTHING lower than "Yoko-bashing"... When I stated that 'you've been duped,' I said the same thing about myself in a comparison, but that must have flown too high for you to catch. My point is that it's all relative to taste. As far as I've read, you're the only one pissed abut this stupid topic, and are the only one who has thrown out unprompted insult after insult toward RM users. Now you're also the only one who has thrown around WWII racialist comments... and it's regarding the 'artist' you are defending.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:You view it as "having fun".
