I wish they would have never tinkered with the song title "Letter to the Dead"
I absolutely love Sad. It's probably my #2 Pearl Jam song. I am okay with the song title being Sad, but Letter to the Dead is a way cooler title.
I remember Synergy released a track listing for Binaural in the early stages. It was just a list of songs. I remember being most excited to find out more about In the Moonlight and Letter to the Dead. Then neither made it. How the hell did Sad not make Binaural?

How strong is the beginning of disk 2??? Fatal, Other Side, Hard to Imagine, Footsteps, Wash, Dead Man, Stangest Tribe. Just amazing. What a mood that sets. Is there another run of songs that are that cohesive on any other release?

ive always wanted to think that they help back a few songs that would most likely only end up being heard by the true fans, since a lot of peoples opinions are that sad and fatal would be much better then a number of songs one Binaural, but im pretty sure they either just werent finished enough or they didnt feel like they would fit well enough.

The "too f*cking poppy" thing is odd, especially in hindsight, after Backspacer. I know they were in a different place n'all back then, but "Sad" never really struck me as poppy. In fact, I think it would work wonderful on Binaural. It fits with the the lyrics of "Light Years".
On a side note, as I type this, "Of The Girl" is playing. It's so good. I love everything about this song. The way it starts, the way the bass and kick drum start at 19 seconds, the bongos in the background, the chimes, the guitar tones, Ed's voice, everyfuckinthing is just perfect.

Some of my favourite PJ songs are on here. Strangest Tibe and Dead Man for starters.

What I always liked about this collection is that it's sort of proof in my head for at least a disc and a half that an album of Pearl Jam b-sides topples most artist's best stuff. But I'm biased and accept it.

Lost Dogs is a fun record, There is some much songs to pick. There are some interesting leftovers from different stages, my favorites are from Binaural: Sad, Fatal and In the Moonlight and a leftover from Ten: Hold On.

I am reading this debate over whether they should have altered the new versions on this, and this got me thinking about when they were promoting this collection before release as "finally" having a finished version of Yellow Ledbetter with lyrics. In the end, they didn't touch the song - but altered all the rest discussed here. Funny.

All Night came on shuffle the other day. We never actually heard this song before Lost Dogs. has anyone ever wondered if these were re-recorded vocals, instead of the originals? It's not a vocal style he had really used before so there aren't many similar period pieces to compare it to.

I assumed they were re-recorded, yes.

I'd always assumed the opposite, actually. I've never thought there was any reason to suspect they weren't 1996 vocals.
As far as I recall, the only songs that received new vocals on Lost Dogs were those from the early 90s (because of all the heart-felt bellowing, I guess.)

It's like when you first start playing with Photoshop. You just can't leave well enough alone.

yeah I assumed the same. The thought just occurred to me, though.
I think drifting is a different vocal take, but I assume it is from the same period

Funny they didn't try to edit Oceans on the Boston show in the 94 vs/vitalogy pack.
