Yes, I love this moment so much. The way Ed's voice drops down to a different level on his delivery, and it sounds like his soul vanishes into the song.
My favorite thing about that song is the bass, but it is closely followed by Stone in the chorus. His voice has such a playful flippancy to it (which is also why I adore Don't Gimme No Lip and Mankind, and don't enjoy some of his more emotional solo work as much as I should). He just turns everything he touches into an exercise in the absurd.
Ed would have turned that chorus into yearning, intentionally or not. It would have sucked nuts.

Haven't gone song by song with this yet.
Brain of J: probably jack's sloppy intro. Maybe my favorite moment of his. Or the whole band working through the intro
Faithful: the lyrics in the first verse, maybe. There is nothing that really excites me about this song
No way: the music, especially the grinding groove in the begining.
Given to fly: the pre choruses
Wishlist: I love almost everything about this song but probably mike's solo in the middle
Pilate: I think I like every moment in this song equally. They're all pretty good and just end up being less than the sum of their parts
Red dot: I hate everything about this song.
Dte: hallelujah..., Ed's final DO THE EVOLUTION
MFC: the second verse
Lowlight: the off key piano at the end, which adds the perfect note of unease to the song
In hiding: the pre chorus. Singing along with the crowd. One of the few pj songs that is markedly better live
Push/pull: the bass going into the last verse (like a cloud...)
All those yesterday's : tuba bass!

I'm not exaggerating when I say this may be the single craziest thing you've written about Pearl Jam, stip. I don't care that much about Pilate either way, but the bridge is about fifty times better than the rest of the song.

Yeah, I think Pilate's bridge is not getting enough love.
One of the best bridges in the entire catalog (maybe the best?), IMHO.
