You know, I wouldn't argue with this. For me Jar of flies is their masterpiece. There's a lot of great stuff on dirt, but some of it is excessive and hasn't aged well, whereas Jar of Flies is still achingly gorgeous. But if you like the snarly, grungy side of AIC this is clearly where they knocked it out of the part.

Some of my earliest memories about music come from listening to Bruuuuuce vinyl with my Dad who was lucky enough to see him in 75, 77, 80 and 84.
in fairiness, I don't think Springsteen belongs in this thread. he doesn't have that one album that towers over everything else he's done.

Totally agree with the High on Fire. Blessed Black Wings is so heavy from start to finish. Way better than anything else they've put out.
A lot of people say Surrounded by Thieves or Art of Self Defense - which are decent albums, but the sound is so muffled, they're pretty much unlistenable.

Exactly.
I think of it as circumstances where you legitimately only have time for one album a band or artist has made; the stars aligned for whatever reason and they managed to come up with one truly great work yet it wouldn't matter one bit if the rest of their catalogue ceased to exist.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon. As much as I love a bunch of their catalog, this album is head and shoulders above the rest. I think it's the closest to being a perfect rock album there is.

U2 - Achtung Baby
