Where were the rest of my songs tonight?
I only remember the North Star blues
That simple old tune on the stage each night
Marking the time that I lost you

Never too late to get into Jason Molina, of course. For a limited time, Secretly Canadien is streaming everything he ever released over at Bandcamp. Link here: http://live.magnoliaelectricco.com/

Unreleased song...sounds like the story behind it is that Jason wrote it for the band Silkworm after their drummer died, and they released it for public consumption today to help with their own grieving:

Re: All Things Jason Molina
I've been listening to this a lot over the past couple of days.
I was never all that aware of his work. I knew who he was, but just never found the time. The last couple of weeks have been especially rough for me, both personally and professionally and this weekend was the culmination of it all. I got home off the road with the intention to crash and drink it all away - I admittedly frequently find myself looking at the bottom of a glass - and then I heard Molina had passed.
I don't know how to put all my feelings into words right now and I apologize wholeheartedly for this post. I just felt a connection and a sense of calm at that moment. As I read about him, his life and his demons, and listened to his work, there was a moment of clarity where I realized how many of us are suffering and how many don't make it through. It was a pretty crushing epiphany, but I didn't feel so alone anymore. I guess that's a positive.
RIP Jason

Silkworm is one of the greatest bands of the last twenty years.

An absolutely essential read by Will Johnson (of Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel, his own solo work, and, of course the Molina & Johnson project) from his blog. Bring tissues: http://www.will-johnson.com/jason-molina/
"Connect when the feeling strikes. Work on loving. Work to avoid regret. Because a lot of the time it’s hard to tell what the last time looks like."

out here beyond the dawn

who will tell 'em that you're gone
oh, the breaking sigh
no answer in the mystery
once you held me helpless
once it mighta been
cold was sharp across the high desert
you and me in the secrets
once it must have been
not only my heart on the rail
once it must have been
no hand was at the wheel
that no hand was at the wheel

Re: All Things Jason Molina
I find myself grateful for all music we got from Jason, given the lyrics from 'The Black Crow' in 2000. I honestly thought we'd never get anything else after that.
a dead crow calls out to its wings
I'm getting weaker, I'm getting thin
I hate how obvious I have been
I'm getting weaker
and I look down and see the whole world
and it's fading

a dead crow calls out to its wings
I'm getting weaker, I'm getting thin
I hate how obvious I have been
I'm getting weaker
and I look down and see the whole world
and it's fading

God those demos are good.

What was up with the live Cat's Cradle album they have up there? It's fantastic, did it ever see an actual release or was it a digital only thing?
