Very sad indeed - what a gift to the world he was.

Amazing that he and Bowie were producing such quality and vital music right up until their deaths - so dignified until the very end :peace:

I've always been familiar with his debut and I'm Your Man, but I'm finally making my way (slowly) into his deeper catalog.

I like Death of a Ladies man, actually. I know it's not a popular one, but I can almost smell the cigarettes and feel the formica from whatever studio it was recorded in when I listen to it. It's definitely a dated relic, but I'm into it.

Would anyone care to recommend a definitive LC bio that I can read?

Thanks for this recommendation. I'm listening to the audiobook now. So far, it's making me nostalgic for my cozy upbringing in 1940s Jewish Canada.

Death of a Ladies Man movie - a bunch of Cohen songs (obviously)

Made me go back and listen to the album - produced by Phil Spector & apparently Phil was completely off the rails on that record and once pulled a gun on Cohen during one of the Sessions.

Memories is such a great song

Such an unique album in Cohen discography, especially with New Skin for the old Ceremony and Recent Songs before and after. " Don't go home with your hard-on " is really weird song.

Memories really is a standout track. The live version of Memories on the Field Commander Cohen live compilation may be the definite version for me.

Also The National's " Dark side of the Gym " is a nod to this Cohen song.
