These are silly movies, I know, but they don't use that as an excuse most of the time (save for wiping out subplots or driving cars straight off a ledge to get somewhere). So I'm ok with it.
This one was goofy fun...most of these are, I guess. And there's always a wincing moment or two (I remember Tom Cruise taking forever to catch up with a tubby old man with a briefcase, last time around), but it plays ok. Nothing as great as Cap 2, or the best moments in Edge of Tomorrow, or whatever.
I actually wish the people doing the Star Trek films (and comic book stuff) would watch the easy way they establish fraternity and team dynamics in these flicks. More of that "show me" fun interplay and less of the "tell me because you think I'm dumb" bullshit (which is usually just "well what if they fight, then some character played by Samuel L Jackson or Jeremy Irons or whatever summarizes for us why they should stop, then they do and make up") would be great.
There are some really dumb aspects to the MI series, but they're usually self-aware and embraced. Plus, I enjoy "dumb and playful" over something like the Bond franchise's recent "dumb and desperate for your love," or Star Trek's more direct "you're dumb, the end," any day of the week.

I found this underwhelming, but it's yet another reminder of how goddamn wonderful Tom Cruise is. What a dreamboat.

Great film. Fifth entry into the franchise and its still a lot of fun, and Tom Cruise is so damn likeable here.
