concerned based on what we've seen so far. I did not like the second episode as much as you guys. All the stuff they added to suit the TV format is hurting it a lot for me; when I'm watching it, I can't help but wish they had just made an Ash-centered movie instead.

Well yeah a movie could have been great, but im really glad we got this with Ash. And make no mistake...Ash is the main figure here.

Cinematography and lighting were pretty good for a TV show, yeah. I'm just surprised anyone could say the humor felt more organic and less reaching in this than the first, because I felt the complete opposite. And I missed all the ridiculous slapstick stuff Raimi delivered (the lightbulbs, the killer doll). We'll see. I'm hopeful, but a little skeptical right now.
the lightbulb bit was great, and I enjoyed the doll bit as well. But this episode had him punching the mother in the face in the middle of dinner. That's pretty great, too.

And I'd rather have the TV show than the movie since it gives us like 4 times as much time with ash!

That was definitely the best part of the episode. "I was starting to feel like a real dick."

pirate bay seems to have pulled all the ash vs. evil dead torrents. Any recommendations for where I can continue getting this (besides paying for starz?)

Yeah, if you Google kickass torrents it'll bring up a bunch of scam sites. Google stopped indexing the real site a while ago.

have you seen evil dead 2/army of darkness? I don't know if it would be necessary pre-viewing, but it might help.

that demon was really well done. Nice contrast to the deaddites, too. Nice to know that there's some different factions (probably?) in this thing.
