It's like a lamer version of the Lebanese flag.

Ben Jones, Dukes of Hazzard actor, posted a statement on Facebook on the matter.
"That flag on top of the General Lee made a statement that the values of the rural south were the values of courage and family and good times.
Our beloved symbol is now being attacked in a wave of political correctness that is unprecedented in our nation of free speech and free expression. Activists and politicians are villifying southern culture and our heritage as being bigoted and racist. We know that this is not the case. And we know that in Hazzard county there was never any racism."

Yeah the swastika used to mean something else too, but then Hitler. Meanings can change, but most people here in the south are too stupid to see that.

I presume there was no racism because there was only one race in Hazzard county.

Re: The Confederate Flag
What gets me about all this is that the confederate flag didn't even fly on state grounds until the 60's, right around the time of civil rights. They sent a clear message what they thought the flag meant.E.H. Ruddock wrote:'muricaStrat wrote:Im pretty certain the confederate flag never changed meanings though
If they decide to build a monument, or some museum, then by all means, fly all the flags of the war, including the various confederate ones. Otherwise, there really isn't any place for it.

This reminds me of the fact that currency and the Pledge of Allegiance weren't plastered with God talk until the 1950s. A lot of these "traditions" sure have a way of targeting disadvantaged classes.darth_vedder wrote:What gets me about all this is that the confederate flag didn't even fly on state grounds until the 60's, right around the time of civil rights. Re: The Confederate Flag
I stopped into a bar tonight in Williamston, NC and found myself in a discussion about how the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery. It was fought because the North taxed Southern cotton.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Southern Cotton is projected as a late first round selection tonight.
