I first heard the band in the summer of 2002. I was a big Creed fan ( :? ) I was out in a rock bar one night and started talking to a girl and she asked me what music I liked, so I mentioned Creed and was met with the type of venom and hatred I'd never experienced before. This girl REALLY hated Creed, and during her rant she kept saying Scott Stapp was a rip-off of one Eddie Vedder.

Needless to say, next morning I went onto Napster ( :haha: ) and looked for some Pearl Jam. First thing I found was a solo acoustic version of I Am Mine from some sort of benefit show Ed did in 2002. I was instantly hooked. I mean, it literally blew me away. I'd never heard such a powerful voice, a voice that moved me and gave me chills. After that, I heard RITFW from Zurich '92, and then it was off to the races.

That summer, I had a Sunday job in a cafe/ice cream parlour and I'd be paid per shift. Every Sunday, I'd work until 1pm, get my money, go back home and head to the music store that was 5 mins from my house. They had a few studio albums and a shit ton of bootlegs from the 2000 tour. First things I bought were Vs, Binaural, Salzburg '00, Zurich '00, and Katowice I '00.

After devouring those, I started reading reviews online to find the best bootlegs. When I finally bought Milan '00 and listened to it, there was never any turning back. Fuck, that was a great summer. Walking into HMV on the day Riot Act was released was a great moment for me. I listened to that shit all day every day for months.

BTW, if anyone can point me in the direction of that 2002 version of I Am Mine I'd be very grateful. If I'm not mistaken, Ed starts playing the intro, then sorta stops as he sings because he forgets the lyrics, but then corrects himself and carries on.

Daniel, it sounds like you might be talking about the UCLA show from 3/15/02. To my knowledge that was the only time "I Am Mine" was done solo prior to the album release. I adore that show -- some of the uke songs debuted there as well. I have no idea where to find it online but if you can't find it I will try to upload it for you sometime soon.

I guess I'm one of the geezers.... I remember seeing the Alive video on MuchMusic and thinking it was pretty cool, but I didn't buy Ten until Jeremy became a hit in '92 and the video was on MuchMusic pretty much hourly. I would've been 15 years old and I was steadily building my CD collection through Columbia House or BMG or whatever it was at the time. You could get 5 or 6 CDs for a dollar but then you had to buy like 5 or 6 more at full price over the next year? I got Nevermind, Ten, Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Badmotorfinger all in one shot.

Defining "new PJ" moments after that...
Jeremy at the MTV VMA
Hearing Crazy Mary at a friends house who had Sweet Relief
Animal and RITFW at MTV

Perhaps my favorite "new PJ" moment of all time is still this...

I'm really confused about what I'm supposed to answer in this thread.

Basically, the first brand new PJ song you experienced after your fandom had already been established.

I would also accept any Metallica or Kanye West-related responses, regardless of their relevance to the original question.

Oh. In that case probably "Go". I had gotten "Ten" from Columbia House and became a fan of the whole album. Then, when I heard "Go", I lost my mind.

I know it isn't originally theirs, but man I loved "Last Caress"/"Green Hell" on that EP

When I was listening the other night I was struck with the feeling that Alice in Chains could have stolen 80% of their songs from "The Small Hours."

Ah, okay, then it would be Yellow Ledbetter, followed by the Singles soundtrack tunes.

Ten was already well established in my playing list, but I didn't know any of the B-sides yet. I believe I was just listening to the radio one day and it came on and it blew me away.

I bought Vs. the day it was released. That quickly cemented them as my favorite band.

"Gold Digger" for me. I know he's gotten better but those first two albums are still super special to me.

Actually, maybe it was "Wolves". I forget which came first.

The "Ten" B-sides rocked my world -- they were basically my introduction to the idea that CD singles and soundtracks could contain songs not featured on regular albums. But by 1995 they were all things for me to go back and find.

.

I think "Only One" was the first of the new songs to premiere.

As much as I like "Only One", I'm a little skeptical that it's going to wind up on the final album. Am I alone in that?
