A quick attempt to rank 'em.

Disintegration
Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
The Head on the Door
Seventeen Seconds
The Top
Three Imaginary Boys
The Cure (This is still surprisingly good. Much like DM's Playing the Angel.)
Wish
Faith (Really love the first half)
Pornography (I have always thought this is pretty overrated by "new" Cure fans.)
Bloodflowers (Feel like this should be higher.)
4:13 Dream
Wild Mood Swings

Japanese Whispers is home to my two favorite Cure songs and I would probably put it at No. 3 if it counted.

I find the self-titled to be a bit boring. Most of the songs feel like they rely too much on repetition, most of the melodies are kind of flat.

Here's my ranking.

Disintegration
Wish
The Head on the Door
Japanese Whispers
Pornography
The Top
Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
Faith
Seventeen Seconds
Bloodflowers
Three Imaginary Boys / Boys Don't Cry
4:13 Dream
The Cure
Wild Mood Swings

I'd probably rank Japanese Whispers in between The Top and KMKMKM.

I have always loved Seventeen Seconds. It's almost as dark as Faith and Pornography, but it's less dense, so it feels like less of a trudge. I have to be in a pretty specific mood for Faith and Pornography, but SS is just light enough to grab for a quick listen.

If you guys had to cut KMKMKM down to a 12-track album, what would be the tracklist?

The Kiss
Catch
If Only Tonight...
Why Can't I Be You?
How Beautiful You Are
Just Like Heaven
All I Want
One More Time
Like Cockatoos
Icing Sugar
The Perfect Girl
A Thousand Hours

It really hurt to leave off Torture and Fight. Especially Fight. Hot Hot Hot!!! was easy to leave off. This is not how I would track the album, just the songs that I would put on there. Although A Thousand Hours replaces Fight nicely as a closer.

All I did was move Just Like Heaven down. It makes for a nice start to the last third and transitions nicely between Like Cockatoos and Icing Sugar. Starting to regret living off Shiver and Shake, but kinda feel it and Fight need to go together.

Kiss Me is such a diverse record, that you could go so many ways. I obviously went for more of an ethereal feel.

Oh man, I love Wendy Time.

I could do without Trust, but the rest of that record is great (the b-sides are all fantastic too.)

I actually prefer KMKMKM and Wish to Disintegration.
turned2black wrote:It's miles better than Wild Mood Swings, which ranks as my least favorite.
It isn't anywhere near as strong as their records up to that point, but I'd still easily rank WMS above any of the records they've done since (though there's plenty of individual songs I quite like from each.)

Ranking:

The Top
Faith
Wish
Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
Japanese Whispers
Disintegration
Pornography
Seventeen Seconds
The Head on the Door
Three Imaginary Boys
Wild Mood Swings
The Cure
Bloodflowers
4:13 Dream

The Kiss
A Japanese Dream
If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
Why Can't I Be You?
How Beautiful You Are
Like Cockatoos
All I Want
Catch
The Snakepit
A Chain of Flowers
Icing Sugar
Fight

(I'm counting all songs recorded in those session as fair game.)

I know it doesn't really matter, but I would still like to see The Cure in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And I would prefer Eddie NOT induct them.

They would probably be inducted by someone terrible, like the guy from Korn.
