It is.
What kinda stuff were you listening to before faithfull got you hooked?

Not Pearl Jam.

I was strictly a classic rock guy at that point. My friend had tried to make me listen to Pearl Jam a lot, and then used Given To Fly to try and convince me given my love of Zeppelin. Obviously I heard the similarities, but it didn't do much for me initially. But he kept forcing me to listen to the album, and it (still does actually) had a classic rock feel I kinda got into. It was actually the Brain of J/Faithfull/No Way opening that really hooked me, but Faithfull is the one that really stood out.
That is an amazing opening set. Im always interested in hearing about people getting into PJ later on in the catalog. Were you able to get into the first 4 albums pretty easy after yield brought you in?

Ten and Vitalogy very easily. No Code somewhat. I honestly have never gotten that into Vs. I've maybe listened to Vs. 5 times all the way through- ever. Every time I have I say "man, i like Vs. more than I thought" and then never have the urge to listen to it. For me the gap between my top 3 (Vitalogy/Yield/Binaural) and the rest of the catalog is pretty huge.
Even though vs is pretty low on my list, i love that album, though it could be because it was their first that i got the day it came out, but it is a great collection of songs
Vs. is weird for me too. From '93 to maybe '95, I thought Vs. was just amazing. At the time, I thought Vitalogy was a step down, and thought No Code was just weird. Since Yield, Vs. has just fallen down the rankings list for me. However, whenever I listen to it, I always enjoy it. Animal was my "gateway", and RVM is about as good as PJ gets.

re: Making friends listen to PJ. This is finally starting to pay-off somewhat. Right when my interest fades (kinda), they're praising the band. No Code, Yield, and Binaural all get love from them. The other day, one of 'em was telling me he bought Vs. and Binaural. I was proud.

I love Vs.

It and No Code are the band's highpoints for me.

If i hadn't already been hooked by the evenflow buzz clip, then all of ten, seeing them play animal on the VMAs would have done it for sure, they were monster on that performance

My friend invited me over to listen to Vs when it first came out. I wasn't going to buy it before hearing it because I wasn't 100% sold on Pearl Jam yet. Too many bands have terrible follow ups to great debuts.

Anyway, Animal and Daughter convinced me. Pearl Jam wasn't a one trick pony. I bought the album on CD the next day.

Daughter is the song that sold me on them being the best band, they were already my far band after ten, but daughter made me know i was right with my choice, i am not ashamed to say i sang that song loud in the shower when no one was home :bammer:

Daughter was really something else. I can't remember for sure if I heard Animal before my friend played the CD for me. But I know I didn't hear Daughter until that night. And that was it. I was like, who are these guys?! Even Flow, Alive, Deep, Garden, Why Go, Animal... these songs did not prepare me for Daughter.

They have so many grooves in their songs, and though its definitely a balad, it has some good grooves in it, good stuff

Daughter is easily a top 10 Pearl Jam song for me, and it's absolutely my favorite "radio" song of theirs.

Agreed.
I've got it officially ranked at #9. So yeah, I agree too.

Its in like the 30s for me, but if i was asked song by song if its a top 10 i would probably say yes to like 40 of them

That's why the Rank the Pearl Jam Catalog thread is so important.

I know I give the top 10 distinction to about 30 songs too, and if I ranked them all for reals it would ruin that. And you know, on any given day any of those 30 could be in the real top 10.

I also don't want to rank them all because that's just fucking retarded.

True, there's enough other stuff left to keep us busy ranking.
