I agree with stip on the whole "staying up until midnight watching movies" thing. It's a difficult trade off, because you never know when that morning is going to start a whole lot earlier than you want it to the next day. We've basically transitioned to TV series for just that reason. When the kids go to bed we can watch a couple and still go to bed at a reasonable time... just in case.

Yet to hear this but my wife and I haven't braved many films because they just get interrupted. And you get frustrated.

I'm too much of a morning person to do late night films. I can stay up until 3 am for an entire week, and never once manage to sleep past 5:40. Makes it hard to watch any movie that is too violent, or that requires you to be able to always hear the dialog.

I'm not convinced there is such a thing as objectively "good." Personal ideology plays too heavily into interpretations and responses. We can reach a degree of faux-objectivity when debating individual elements, how they're executed, and whether they jell with other elements, but that doesn't always ultimately indicate quality in a larger sense.
