Listening to "Bottle It In" pretty hard the past couple days -- as ever, I am absolutely enamored with the inherent sense of unspoiled good that radiates from Vile's aimlessness. His music espouses a worldview that seems almost accidentally profound -- take it easy, go with the flow, whatever, etc., but with so many nuggets of savant-like insight and unfiltered compassion throughout that you can't help but feel like he's a guy who has his priorities straight. I especially like the stretch of "Bassackwards," "One Trick Ponies" and "Rolling With the Flow."

Bonus points for his choice to wear the free Planet Fitness t-shirt on the album cover.

I was admiring his relaxed turn of phrase today. Just the ease of:

He has a way of getting under your skin without you realising he's doing it.

I liked how the AllMusic review framed this album as a sort of travelogue. That sense of carefree aimlessness KD speaks of lends itself really well to long trips in the car, I've discovered.

"Mutinies" is my favorite track.

Side note: Obama had "One Trick Ponies" as one of his favorite songs of 2018 (along with Courtney Barnett's "A Little Time"), which I thought was pretty neat. Dude stays hip.

Giving this another shot in advance of Friday’s release. Gonna get through as much as I can.

Listened to Constant Hitmaker and God Is Saying This To You. In both instances, it’s almost surprising that Kurt Vile and the War on Drugs have any history together. They just have very different sounds, although I could really hear the Velvet Underground influences on God Is Saying This To You, which is a component of early War on Drugs that I had noted in that journey, especially in parts of Wagonwheel Blues.

For the most part, and what makes this impossible as a sort of stated journey is that it seems best to sort of abandon the songs individually on these two albums and sort of just experience the hypnotic soundscapes created - two very different ones but both sort of perfect for this rainy day.

Now through The Hunchback EP which is immediately my favorite so far. I really like the crunchy guitars here and the instruments work in conjunction with the songs. This was a good space.

Childish Prodigy was really good. Much more song structure and more hooks. I am enjoying the creativity here - Hunchback, Monkey, Heart Attack, and Inside Looking Out we’re favorites on first listen.

Square Shells EP is quite solid, especially the first two songs. I also liked I Know I Got Religion, but damn Ocean City and Invisibility: Nonexistent are both great.
