Its such a complex love story. I love it.durdencommatyler wrote:Fuck yes, TVG! Lisey's Story is a breathtaking novel.
That kind of filmmaker...not him specially. And him going back to tv doesnt really count because he did tv when it wasnt ¨the thing to do¨.durdencommatyler wrote:Did you just say David Lynch is gone? He's about to revolutionize tv FOR THE SECOND TIME, MAN!

Im not sure they see themselves as that. I have the idea they really think they are taking a chance with what they do. Is weird...at this point those shows seem so formulaic to me, so shallow. Its a Rolling Stone cover.durdencommatyler wrote:Well right but The Daily Show and shows like it aren't trying to change anyone's mind. They're just entertainment. I know you hate that and I agree that comedy can be and satire maybe should strive for more. Yeah, I get it. But sometimes people just want to laugh and nod. And that's why The Daily Show exists. And that's okay.
I can't speak for the current staff but Jon Stewart said over and over again that they were just a dopey comedy show and not a political news show and not out to do anything but make people laugh. Perhaps that's changed with the new regime but I doubt it.VinylGuy wrote:Im not sure they see themselves as that. I have the idea they really think they are taking a chance with what they do. Do you like them?durdencommatyler wrote:I can't speak for the current staff but Jon Stewart said over and over again that they were just a dopey comedy show and not a political news show and not out to do anything but make people laugh. I was never a big Colbert Report fan. I've watched a few segments of TDS since Trevor Noah took over. I like him, he's charming but he lacks the authority and command that Stewart had.VinylGuy wrote:Havent seen that. Maybe in his case thats ok. But all the other ones? I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Oh my god he cracks me up. his accent does it for me every time.tragabigzanda wrote:My problem with Oliver is that he isn't even remotely funny, but his long-form pieces are often quite insightful. I'd be way happier if he moved over to 60 Minutes and just played it straight.
