Fuck you, dude. Thats really not the case. If I have to reiterate, yeah I do like independent rock bands. Bands that can do most everything on their own, without having to suckle on the corporate teet. Yeah, I like bands that don't suck. Thats pretty much it. And Gaslight is souless, corporate rock (and I am aware of the irony of this being a pearl jam board).
When I die and I'm stuck in an Anne Frank attic for eternity, and the only music I have to endure is the fucking Hold Steady, I'll know I'm paying my debt to the cosmos for being a prick. But until then, I'll take my records that were created by honest, creative individuals doing it for their themselves and artistic expression, not the devoid rock star dream.

Well...it really has nothing to do with that. There are some indie bands I do like. It's more a reaction to that style of music being so oversaturated that made me, and perhaps others too, just hungry for some decent hard rock with no strings attached. At the same time, this same reaction also had me more interested in blues rock again, so I guess some good came of it all.

My personal vision of hell.
Sorry but Gaslight are fun live.
I wouldn't care if that tattooed toolbag juggled flaming chainsaws, that music is atrocious.
But, yeah different strokes.
Lol. I dont really get them either. Well I guess I do, but I dont like it.

Grown man using LOL, cool dude.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty certain pitchfork is pretty well funded and sourced by record company scum.

I certainly didn't mean to start a riot. I'm just excited to get some straight forward unpretentious live rock music.

Yeah, neither did I. I try to keep a "if you have nothing nice to say..." ethos but procrastination is a motherfucker.

Sometimes, we just gotta let it out. It's all good. If we all felt the same way, there'd be no use for internet message boards.

I like Gaslight. They patrol the guilty pleasure DMZ for me, but fuck it, they're catchy as hell.
And since when can't "artistic expression" and "rock star dreams" co-exist?

Where as I love people who have big dreams and work every day towards achieving them. Dream big, go hard.

There is one person here that is being a little over idealistic. Don't let it get in the way of enjoying things.

Is "wanting to be a rock star" the same as wanting to be successful? I'm not sure the Gaslight guys want to be stars as much as they simple want to make music for a living. If that means they have to navigate "corporate" record companies, that's OK by me.
I'm all for tortured artists. But I'm also all for those tortured artists being able to do it full-time.
And really is Gaslight's '50s sound any cheesier than some of the retro garbage that's been happening in the "indie" world for the last 10 years.
I don't know why I'm defending The Gaslight Anthem, I don't even really like them all that much.
