I heard that there's only one song in the songbook, and it's a live version of Even Flow. 90% of the pages are Mike's solo.Strat wrote:Yes and I believe Alive is actually taken from a few takes which is discussed in articles elsewhere.tragabigzanda wrote:"Improvised" guitar solos are incredibly rare in the studio world. What might be called "improvised" is more than likely an edit of two or three takes at a solo -- so there are some choices made, ideas developed, even if it's a guitar-god like Mike, and the choices are made quickly and not meticulously...Brett wrote:Doesn't that kinda make sense, though? I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that most of Mike's solos were improvised rather than composed.gardenparty wrote:folks at the pit have reason to believe there are no solos included in this book.
uh oh...
Not including his solos in the book seems like an obviously lazy shortcut to me -- especially since many of them could be foundational for anybody trying to learn the guitar or better their skills.
Also, improvised or not, they could still transcribe them out for those trying to learn guitar. That TEN tablature book was a gift from the gods back in the year of strats 14th turn around the sun. Memorized that Alive solo note for note. it was only a couple years later that i learned why that solo made sense and how it fit into a scale etc...
Also, i wonder if they will note that Even Flow is a fucking 1/4 step down. Fuck that shit.
And Matt's drum solos.bodysnatcher wrote:I heard that there's only one song in the songbook, and it's a live version of Even Flow. 90% of the pages are Mike's solo.Strat wrote:Yes and I believe Alive is actually taken from a few takes which is discussed in articles elsewhere.tragabigzanda wrote:"Improvised" guitar solos are incredibly rare in the studio world.
