The only part I didn't like was the Leno interview. He had all his regular guests on in the week leading up to the finale, and one of them should have been in Leno's spot. I'd have gone with Larry King but Betty White or Tom Lennon would have been great as well.

I was on the fence about the Bang Your Drum opening sequence until it segued into the studio. From there it seemed really genuine, Craig being Craig, sentimental in a subtle way. When it faded to the commercial you can see him kind of surveying the room with a look of sentimental accomplishment, and I liked that. The monologue was what it should have been. He tried to be honest and sentimental without going over the top, and that worked ok.

They played my favorite Tweets and Email jingle (the Bowie-esque one with the triceratops) which I was pumped about, and it turned into a classic tweets and emails segment. Nothing new about it (except pipey mcpiperson which I thought was hilarious and just the type of thing he'd do), but solid segment straight through. He hit many of the classic standbys in the segment, and did them well. (Annnnd your emaillllls, email time again; michael's a racist; geoff's been to that person; WHO'S THAT AT THE DOOR!?!; celebrity phone call, the late night flies;). I just wish we got some dings, but we did learn that Assmode is a way of life.

Leno sucked, but whatever.

But the last bit was really good. Bob Newhart as Secretariat and the whole thing was a dream within the Drew Carey show's universe. Awesome.

What I was really hoping for was that we'd got some Alfredo Sauce and the Shy Fellas over the last couple of weeks. The only appearance was during the cold open on the penultimate episode when JRT brought them up.

It was a spinoff just like I said a long time ago. Ha!

I didn't watch this show much the last few years, as I had to get up a lot earlier, but it saddens me that this will be gone.

It seems that the plan to give Craig Ferguson a syndicated half-hour talk show has fizzled out. After months of negotiations, Variety reports that Tribune Broadcasting has given up trying to launch the new show. It had envisioned the talk-meets-variety program as a pre-primetime “showcase for the offbeat humor” of Ferguson, one that would lead into nightly primetime TV programming. Apparently, not enough network affiliates could be convinced to abandon current pre-primetime programming like Jeopardy!, Wheel Of Fortune, and celebrity news programs to make the show viable.

But fear not, Robot Skeleton Army: he won’t be disappearing entirely. The Ferguson-hosted Celebrity Name Game has just been renewed for a second season of equally frenetic—though much more family-friendly—televised fun.

Anybody see any of the Jim Gaffigan episodes? Yikes. Unwatchable. Nobody cares about your kids.

I like him too, which is why I was surprised by the insufferable shittiness of his guest-hosting.

I liked the Gaffigan episodes, they were much better than the Drew Carey ones.

Though I do think Gaffigan missed the mark on what he was trying to do, I appreciated that he approached the show from a different angle than just the generic late night show. If he did the show long enough to get bored with what he was doing I could see him doing good things with it.

Not sure about this Corden guy so far. The monologue was so sickly sugary, earnest, needy, thank you thank you, I'll do my best! Eesh. I hope he has more edge than this first impression suggests.

Holy crap this is one vanilla interview. This is what's replacing Ferguson? Yikes. What a bummer.

That's Corden though - he's very cloying. I suspected he wouldn't hold a candle.

I think he's alright. He's not DVR worthy the way Ferguson was, but some of his pre recorded bits have made me laugh, and I like the structure of the show and the guests all coming out at once and having a group conversation.
