I mean, from a songwriting point of view I agree Stone > Eddie, Im more talking from a performance point of view I guess.

I could see somebody being like "Yeah I love Guns n Roses because Slash is so amazing" or "I love Rush because Neil Peart is so great on drums". Led Zepellin is a band I could see people loving pretty much any of the members as their favorite.

I can't see anybody loving Pearl Jam without a love for Eddie Vedder. I can't see people being like "Yeah you have to listen to this Pearl Jam this Stone Gossard guy is so amazing". IDK. I mean....I do think watching Unplugged I could see people saying OMG this drummer is insane. When I watch videos from 93-94 I can totally see people being taken in by Dave A...

But in general, I can't see anybody's favorite pearl jam member NOT being eddie vedder unless they're a member of this board.

Like Eddie is pearl jam in a way that not all frontmen are. It's honestly one of the bands where the frontman eclipses the rest of them more than others.

Once you have fully committed to the band I can totally see enjoying band members more than Eddie, but Eddie is the element of their sound that is singularly recognizable, and almost certainly what brings everyone to the party in the first place - even if the voice is aided and abetted in profound ways but the music he is singing over

Like Eddie is pearl jam in a way that not all frontmen are. It's honestly one of the bands where the frontman eclipses the rest of them more than others.

Honestly most of the time I just like the music because I like the music, whatever that entails, and it's been that way as long as I can recall. I certainly have singers and instrumentalists I favor but this whole business of assessing a band by singling out individual "star" members who you think are individually great is not something that drives my listening habits at all -- it reminds me of how teen girls would argue over their favorite Backstreet Boy. Music is a collective experience that either works or it doesn't, rarely is it driven by how high any one contributor rates on a Star-O-Meter.

I like music not individuals...i get your point but for a band like PJ i dont think it applies, specially at this point of their career.

Made me think a funny thought, that we got two Pearl Jam bands. One fronted by Ed with a strange group of guys (like early 2000s Gn'R), playing old PJ songs, and a few new ones. The other with Stone, Jeff, Mike and Matt, with f.ex. Mark Lanegan and Jerry Cantrell, playing old PJ songs, a few new ones, and some Cantrell and Lanegan songs. Eds band was called Eddie Vedder and the Pearl Jam experience, while the other was simply Pearl Jam.

Anyway, joking aside, it's about the entire band, not star power of the individual. Song writing skill is massive, which is one of the reasons why Izzy was so vital to Guns N'Roses.

Sure but the discussion was about who your favorite member of PJ is. You can say "I dont have a favorite member I like the whole" which is ok but if we're talking favorite members for me its like of course Eddie is number 1. Now obviously not everybody is gonna say the same thing, but I do think its funny that there was a poll here for favorite member and Eddie wasn't winning I DO NOT GET YOU PEOPLE.

Favorite can be a milion things. Song writer, human being, career retrospective, audience interaction, technical skill, charisma, personality, point of view, musical style, politics (or lack of).

I wish I'd had my phone ready. There were several songs at the end of the credits that I'd never heard of, including a Jeff Ament solo.

Seeing this in about 6 hours. I'm going in with an open mind. I don't get out to the movies often, especially without kids, so either way this will be a good.

I really liked this. Good mix of music, band stuff, and Cubs/EV stuff. The Gleason part was pretty heavy. Loved the BRY with Rodman, Fun versions of Last Exit and Go.

My only gripe isn't really about the movie itself. Just that call and response Corduroy. One of the most fun songs live went to shit.
