Yeah, Dime you’d like this. The story is more linear than Zelda, but you can take as long as you like exploring and getting distracted and just ignore the story. I am not good at handling a PlayStation controller so it’s been a struggle, but there are some pretty fun set pieces. I really dislike the Dutch character, though. It bothers me that Arthur follows him unquestioningly from one bad situation to the next.

I finished up my playthrough a few days ago and this game really still hits just as hard. I'm compelled to revisit RDR1 now.

Not at all. The 2nd one is actually a prequel.

Nice one.
Thank you.

RDR2 really needed a zombie DLC so we could keep the good times rollin', mf.

RDR2 was criminally neglected after launch. RDR Online was a bust and the cash king was GTAV, so any further DLC was out of the question I suppose given how long development times seemed to take for this game. The zombie DLC from the first RDR was top notch.
Even though I've taken my time I still feel I've progressed too quickly to chapter 6....going to slow it down a bit

So I had Monday off for MLK and then today off because of temps well below zero. I must have played for 10-12 hours.
I just got to the epilogue. It probably sounds like I’m playing at breakneck pace, but I swear I’ve done every side quest available, though one or two may have disappeared before I could get to them. What I don’t do is stop every time a gray dot pops up while I’m riding. I would, but they almost always lead to either my death or a bounty I need to pay off. Not worth it.
I cannot believe the climactic end of chapter 6 segued to a mission that was delivering groceries.
I’ll be writing a full review no one asked for when I’m done, but I’m not sure when that will be. Looks like 20% of the game still remains, and I’m snowboarding and watching football this weekend so it may be a bit. Or maybe I’ll break the weekday video game rules to see this through.

Once I was into the epilogue I tried my very best to make the campaign/story/playthrough go for as long as humanly possible. Was so deflated when it was all over.

Yeah it really sucks how this game got the shaft in the extras dept. Thankfully it doesn't need anything else but more would be nice.
Could you imagine though, a DLC where you play as Sadie the bounty hunter, or that rebel leader in the uprising in Guarma? There were a lot of options for additional stories to be told.

My first playthrough I spent a lot of time doing every little thing the game wanted - hunted all the legendary game, treasure hunts, tried to get all of the special outfits, etc. That's the stuff that takes really adds to your play time and has you exploring every corner of the map. Subsequent playthroughs I mostly just stick to the main story, side quests and stranger encounters.

Was reading about the scout jacket last night - will need to fire up the game sometime and see if I scored that. Apparently it was pretty rare.

Had a root canal today. Came home and just finished the game.
I played part 1 maybe 15 years ago. Got to Mexico and then life got busy or something. I never finished it. I think I need to now.
I really have no desire to spend time hunting for animals or treasure or doing challenges. I’m satisfied with what I did, and apparently I got the “good” ending for Arthur.
I will say I’m blown away by the detail of the world. I don’t get how it’s done. It’s pretty unbelievable.

I have very fond memories of Beaver Hollow, Tall Trees and Bayou Nwa. They all give off heavy Bone Tomahawk vibes.

Some random thoughts.
My son informed me there are 4 endings. I got the “best” ending. I watched the worst on YouTube. That would have incensed me.
I remember when Avatar was in theaters, there were people who had seen it multiple times and were developing some manner of depression because they couldn’t spend more time in Pandora. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2022/d ... erons-film
I think a lot of people had that experience with this game. I had it with Zelda:TotK. When you put hundreds of hours into a world, it’s a depressing thing to walk away from.
Here are my favorite moments from the game:
1) Easily my favorite scene was getting hammered at the saloon with Lenny. I laughed out loud.
2) Fairly early into it, Arthur stands on a wagon as a train heads toward him. Looked super badass.
3) 60-70% of the epilogues are chores. Building the house with the music made me laugh.
4) The Willie Nelson song in the epilogue.
5) Arthur on the rooftop waving to the Odriscoll about to be hanged.
6) The road to the Braithewaite mansion bordered by trees is gorgeous. Reminded me of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.
7) Every time my horse shat. They nailed it.
8) I didn’t do it enough, but just stopping and spinning around to take it all in. The night sky is unreal. That mansion in Saint Denis - visit it after the chapter. So much detail. So much beauty.
The amount of time on horseback hurt my overall experience. Reminded me of Wind Waker in that regard.
I never saw a snake. Ran into two dudes who had been bitten. Pussy Jack’s dog was also bitten. Can they actually be seen in the game?
