lol @ Matt Taibbi fixing journalism. Like that time he altered a quote to make it fit a QAnon theory... ...or wrote this nonsense.
Trump stands accused of using the office of the presidency to advance political aims, in particular pressuring Ukraine to investigate potential campaign rival Joe Biden. He’s guilty, but the issue is how guilty, in comparison to his accusers.
Honestly, though, my favorite part of that RS piece is where he lists legitimate and factually reported stories (the White House went out of its way to avoid notifying whole sections of our government because Democrats) as examples of the problem. The media wasn’t basking enough in the glory of the president’s victory! Instead, they sought and reported on information! The horror!

Remember when Rollingstone indicted UVA for a rape that never happened?

“ From Fox to the New York Times, all of the major commercial outlets this weekend were more consumed with telling audiences who benefited politically from the al-Baghdadi mission, than getting the facts about that mission out.”

He not wrong though

The horse race hunger games, especially in tv news programming, are a legitimate problem. There were quite a few “how it went down” stories running this weekend though, as well as a number of tv discussions on what this means for the operational effectiveness of ISIL. The relevance of the Kurds being so central to the mission even as we abandon them was probably the topic I saw the most discussion of, besides the thing I’m about to bring up.

The real dysfunction on display was the volume of trained professionals who looked at this very newsy and very impactful story, itself surrounded by a very newsy weekend, and went “WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE DOG AGAIN RECUE THE DOG PIC.” That’s some local reporter fluff story shit right there. I don’t give a shit how much you like dogs, it doesn’t warrant a quarter of your programming on a combat mission that took out a terrorist.

Sorry to Taibbi, but the president keeping his own chief of staff in the dark because he’s angry at him is not not a story, just because you wanted him to get more of a bump from this.

Bret Stephens writing an oped about how some ethnic groups have an inherent intellectual advantage over others, using discredited “brain science” research that was funded by white nationalists, is a pretty good summary of why I cancelled my subscription to the New York Times earlier this year.

It’s difficult to believe that evolutionary divergence is/was somehow limited to phenotypic traits alone, but I don’t understand how you would even begin make assertions based on race outside of highly insular populations other than frequency of certain alleles that correlate with higher IQ (these things tend to need to be in specific non heritable combinations that appear to be more heavily influenced by environment than by nature, so these assertions are scientifically unsound)
